Had Nemesis been successful, what do you think ST XI would've been like?

The tagline for the movie was: A Generation's Final Journey Begins.

Which leads me to believe their intention was to make a trilogy, in the same way that TWoK, TSFS and TVH were trilogies with events following very closely the end of each movie. Nemesis seemed to leave a lot of things up in the air that could have been addressed in a followup. At the same time, it seemed like a passing of the torch to Riker and his crew, and I think a followup movie would have followed him (seeing as we never actually got to see the Titan on screen) and explore the idea of peace with the Romulans, closing the book on a chapter in the process. I don't think Picard and his crew would have been completely off the table at this point, as I think they could have gone back and forth between both crews and perhaps reuniting at the end. When Nemesis ended up not being successful, it changed everything, and I feel it's a shame we never really got to explore the aftermath as there were some interesting possibilities that had opened up.

Ending the movie with the Enterprise at DS9 and replenishing its crew, with Riker boarding his new ship and going off into the sunset err wormhole would have been pretty sweet.

Maybe you're right; it's been a while since I last watched NEM, but there are quite a few threads left hanging. In retrospect, it seems like they left a little more of the story to tell sometime down the road, but the failure of NEM leaves that story on a bittersweet note at best.

Nemesis is basically like a mashup of Treks II and VI so it couldve been the beginning of a new chapter or the end. turns out it was the end

Point being that they left a lot of things up in the air that a followup would have answered, because there likely was a belief that it would return and then didn't.

Screw Avengers: Infinity War. Now that's the epic team-up movie I've always wanted to see!

While I would have enjoyed another film or two with the NG cast, I worry about your last point. Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner having too much input into (and power over) the script led to some facepalm-worthy scenes in Nemesis, and would have only gotten worse going forward, I fear.

I think if Nemesis had been successful, we would've had maybe one more Trek film featuring the TNG cast, and the feature film series would've gone dormant for awhile. As far as these thoughts about a Marvel Cinematic Universe kind of thing, that would be looking at the Trek series from a 2018 perspective, not a 2002 perspective. I think Paramount would've been very happy if the Trek films pulled in 20-30 million dollars a piece.

I think that if Nemesis had been successful they would have found something even less likely to be successful, like a remake with Picard instead of Kirk of the Final Frontier.

I love Next Gen. It's my second favorite version of Star Trek and yet I am completely ambivalent about the movies. Unlike the TOS crew movies, I have almost zero interest in rewatching any of them. I see them as mostly missed opportunities. It seems like they could and should have been better.

A big plot with seemingly separate elements that would see the Enterprise and the Titan embroiled in some mystery or new discovery or diplomatic stand-off, and as the big bad reveals themselves its only by the two ships and crews coming together that they have a hope of stopping it (most likely with Picard being the action hero once again).

Of course there would also be scope for using this film as a launching point for another series, seeing as how most of the crew on both ships would be new (though maybe a few fan favourites getting a little more screen time) and depending on the resolution could see the E-E taking on a new Captain or the Titan heading off on its own wondrous adventures.

    As for the characters:
Picard - Actively thinking of retiring from Starfleet to pursue either a career in the diplomatic corps or as an archaeologist.
Riker - Making a name for himself as one of Starfleet's best Captain's, his time spent under Picard wasn't wasted after all and doting on his wife, then having to deal with the bad news.
Troi - Enjoying her new position, working with the new crew and seeing her husband excel. Her life is changed when she finds out that they can't have children and how that affects her view on the life she had imagined.
Crusher - Still CMO on the Enterprise, but hounded by Starfleet Medical to take up an important post on Earth--though good for her career it would mean leaving behind everything else.
La Forge - Settled into his position as the E-E's new First Officer, but being sought out by Starfleet Science and the S.C.E. to lead them on the Soong Project (to see the development of new androids for use across Starfleet).
Worf - As Federation Ambassador to the Klingon Empire his position sees him in a highly visible place and carrying far more clout than he ever expected, so when he's asked for help form Picard he can bring more than expected.
B-4 - When his positronic matrix almost burns out with the upload from Data he is taken to Starfleet Science who being a programme to develop a new line of Soong-type androids.

Which doesn't bother me in the least at this point in time, because I have been happily married for 13 years.

That's ambitious in scope... and fantastic.

I think Star Trek 11 as a direct sequel to Nemesis would have been more of the same: Worf, Picard and Data using worn out shoot-em up tropes. I would have *loved* to see a story that focused more on Geordi, Beverly, Troi and Riker because they got some of the best episodes in the series. The movies tend to forget this point.

And Trek aficionados like us often gloss over the fact that Joe Six Pack hates DS9 and Voyager. I love those two Trek shows unconditionally but I don't think either of them were ever remotely well received near to a Hollywood features scale.

Trek's better off on TV! :)

Is this your speculation (if so why would you think this?) or is it based on something that was actually being considered at the time?

Just my own speculation. The reason I think this is because Berman and Braga were obsessed with the Borg and I have a feeling they would've brought them back eventually in another movie.

That's pretty much my line of thinking as well. And I think that if there would have been a followup to that, then I think the Enterprise would then be out of the picture entirely. The only thing I'd change would be regarding Riker who I'd give a much bigger role at the end rather than Picard, to give him and his crew more importance. Maybe Picard gets a close call that forces him into thinking about retirement.
