Nah, only if you're the type to worry about such things.

Discovery is for sure in the prime timeline, it's just not in the prime universe, not yet anyway.

    Well, what was the Tweet?

IMHO, only stuff that's contradictory to the previous shows should have an onscreen explanation (like Lorca's Horta). New stuff that's just new (like Kelpians, for example) needs no explanation.

Lorca is from the MU. Sufficent for me.

I'm not demanding an explanation of everything. I don't have a maximalist position. But an explanation of major differences would solve the issue, if the explanation was reasonable.

There in lies the problem. "Reasonable" is highly subjective.

Not Lorca himself, the Horta he possessed.

He knew of Janus IV and simply took an egg because he is from the MU.

It's a fucking Easter egg. Heck, maybe not even Horta at all unless I missed a very explicit verbal reference.

I suppose he could have known that MU Janus VI was also the home to the Horta and in that universe the eggs had already hatched and the species made itself known. He used that information and found a way to obtain one for his experiments by locating one in the caverns of the planet and transporting it to whichever vessel he was on at the time.

To a degree, yes. But that's a different question than whether an explanation is needed/advisable in the first place.

The only explanation we need is over stories, not trivial stuff like why Starfleet has window viewscreens instead of video viewscreens.

The larger question to me is whether the explanation would help anything at all?

Well they changed everything about themselves in a mere three to four years between TOS and TMP, so a decade is ages.

Just show a few Augment Klingons and some with TNG-style hair and ridges. Problem solved.

The new makeup will still suck, but at least we'll know that the Empire has different types of Klingons and we can move on and start bitching more loudly about their ships. :p

That's a big assumption. We only saw three ships.
