Spoilers DC's Legends of Tomorrow - Season 3

"No Country for Old Dads"

Well, that was a blast. This season is where it's at. Didn't think they could ham it up even more.

I also like that we're seeing more "life on the ship" moments these days. Rory doing laundry, breakfast in the kitchen, etc.

Any speculation on Ava?

...but more beautiful women is never a bad thing. ;)
A whole episode with Courtney Ford was certainly welcome. Nice to see her playing off her real-life husband.

Well, you know what they say: Imitation is the sincerest for- OH GOD, WHAT IS MARVEL STUDIOS DOING, LET'S DO THAT, AND RUN AS FAR FROM THE DCEU AS METAHUMANLY POSSIB-
We even got a taste of Iron Man this week.

You know, earlier today, when I was wondering about how Wally would make his debut with the Legends, it occurred to me, "I bet that when Damien encounters Kid Flash, he's gonna say 'I hate speedsters.'" I didn't really expect I'd be right.

Interesting to see Nora accessing the Spirit Totem's power of flight. Mari used that a lot in Vixen, but I don't think we've seen Amaya use it.

Brandon Routh?
That was great, the Darhks and Ray were a lot of fun. I honestly hadn't given much thought to there actually being a reason for all of the anachronisms.
I was just on the Wikipedia page and they have Wally listed with the main cast, so is he actually sticking around full time? I thought he was just going to be on a handful of episodes before leaving again.

I honestly hadn't given much thought to there actually being a reason for all of the anachronisms.

It was established earlier in the season that, while most of the anachronisms were the result of the Legends "breaking time," there were others that were being engineered by Mallus's followers for unknown reasons. Now we have the explanation. The Legends' actions must've weakened the structure of time enough to give Mallus an opening, but he still had to go further, to create enough additional temporal disruptions to shatter his prison.

His name was listed among the regular cast in the opening credits. (Which, by the way, give Brandon Routh top billing now that Victor Garber is gone. I expected Caity Lotz would get top billing now, but she's still second for some reason.)

I love all the period versions of Darhk like the Miami Vice one and the Anton Chigurh style here. The Darhk/Darhk battle with Nora was well done and I even found myself a little anxious for her. “I’m going to kick my ass.” :)

We get the return of the Upswipez app. Like Beebo, the callbacks have been fun this season.

The too laid back Wally personality is interesting, I’m curious if they’ll maintain that going forward. This show does seem an upgrade for Keiynan Lonsdale (I’m impressed my iPad appears to predictive spell his name and Darhk’s) to do more.

I'm not very familiar with the movie this episode was referencing, though I did recognize the distinctive hairstyle Darhk was sporting. For me, this was mainly a reminder of Darhk's backstory, that he was a member of the League of Assassins before he became an evil sorceror.

I had a problem with the way the climax was staged, with Darhk trying to magically hold Nora in midair and not let her fall. Why didn't he just reel her in, exert a pull to bring her over the rooftop? Or was that earlier "up and down is more intuitive" scene tossing around the executive guy meant to show that his telekinesis only works in one axis at a time?

Neil McDonough is a fun actor to watch. Chews up the scenery all the time, but it's just enjoyable.

I think Jes Macallan bears a striking resemblance to Melissa Benoist.

I like how this show doesn't get too political and just is fun. The last few episodes have been hilarious.

So Damien Darhk just upswiped Cupid, now that's a villain powercouple nobody saw coming... :D

They're probably still working under the original Legends contracts, and Routh was a bigger name due to his big-screen appearance as Superman

Oh, thanks. I figured that was a face and name we were supposed to recognize, but I couldn't place it.

That seems likely. It's still weird, though, since Sara is by any reasonable standard the lead character of the show. Caity Lotz is also the most senior Arrowverse cast member outside of Arrow itself, so you'd think that would have some impact on the contracts. I hope this isn't some sort of unequal-pay thing, Routh getting more because he's male.

Routh does have a few other more high profile roles than Lotz, so that probably has more to do with it than just him being a guy.
Along with Superman Returns, he was one of the Evil Exes in Scott Pilgrim, and he had a role in Zak and Miri Make a Porno. Caity Lotz hasn't really done anything that noteworthy outside of the Arrowverse

That bugged me too.

Gotham City?

I'm familiar with No Country For Old Men but haven't caught the Fargo TV series which also is where the split screen moment references. I don't know if there are other Coen Bros. movies referenced.

She was the title character in a 2013 movie called The Machine, which was sort of like a much cheaper, somewhat shallower first draft of Ex Machina, though an unrelated production. (My blog review and comparison of both) Apparently she started out as a singer and dancer and got a fair amount of attention at that, and she had a recurring role in Mad Men and a starring role in MTV's Death Valley. I think she also became something of a YouTube celebrity for her parkour and martial arts videos.

Anyway, actors' credits in a show aren't exclusively dependent on their prior careers. Jesse L. Martin has a whole lot more acting experience than Grant Gustin, but Gustin gets top billing on The Flash. Calista Flockhart has a ton more experience than Melissa Benoist, but Benoist got top billing on Supergirl from the start. So that can't be the reason by itself.

The difference, of course, is that Legends started as an ensemble show without any one actor being seen as the lead. I guess it still technically is. But Sara has risen from the pack to be the most prominent character. She's the team leader, the most central Legend in the crossovers, the face that represents the show in promotional art, etc. I understand the contractual reasons behind how billing works, and I know that the lead character doesn't always get top billing (Christopher Reeve was third-billed in Superman: The Movie). But it still feels weird.

I'll have add that to my watch list.

Hmm, since her character there is apparently a robot named Ava, is that a clue that Legends Ava is also a robot? ;)

Rip and Gideon got some ‘splashing to do...

It’s interesting to contrast The Machine with Ex Machina (The Machine) with Alicia Vikander playing a character named Ava in a similarish story about AI.

Oh, I actually do agree with you that it feels weird, but I can understand how it came about.

Was Arthur Darvill ahead of the credits in season 1? He was both a big name because of "Doctor Who" and also the captain. I am wondering how they settled on the credits for Dominic Purcell and Wentworth MIller as well. I think they could be seen as being quasi- big names as well.
