^ It's the least they could do to honour what Kira did for them in the most dire of circumstances.
First Contact's stardate puts it some time around "Blaze of Glory" or "Empok Nor" on DS9.
Sisko references the recent Borg attack in "In Purgatory's Shadow". My guess is FC happened between "The Ascent" and "Rapture". Stardates make little sense and are best ignored in my opinion.
The Defiant was going to be destroyed in the movie until Ira Behr lost his shit over that and refused to acknowledge that happening in DS9.I truly expected the Defiant to perform a lot better than what was seen on film.
Ira Behr confirmed it was a reference to First Contact. It was his thank-you for not destroying the Defiant.Yet Sisko probably isn't referring to ST:FC when he speaks of the recent Borg attack.
In reality if Starfleet wanted to put a stop to the Borg they'd just unleash Kira on them, the Collective would be running scared.Earth is in danger of being assimilated, and DS9 sends The B Team.

As that guy has played two Starfleet officers and a Bajoran Militia officer serving on DS9, a civilian living on the station and one of the all-Vulcan crew of the USS T'Kumbra, I feel confident that assimilated guy on the Enterprise E was in fact meant to be a separate person. There's also this guy, who appears as an assimilatee in Engineering but then turns up on DS9 alive and well afterwards. Probably not the same character, but maybe...

Kirayoshi was presumably named partly after his surrogate mother, Kira Nerys. Yoshi's root meaning is "good" and is used as a prefix/suffix in names. "Yoshi!" is also said in a way meaning "Yes! All right! Good!"
SISKO: [Prays really hard]Do we really think the "A" team would have performed any better in these circumstances?
I never liked the idea of the entire senior staff of DS9 go joy riding throughout the Quadrant while the menials remain on the station. They should've been some protocol where at least one senior officer is in command of the Defiant and have a mix of senior staff and lower staff be assigned. For the many things I hated about First Contact, I thought they got in right with the Defiant's staff.
On a side note: I truly expected the Defiant to perform a lot better than what was seen on film.

I just realised Bashir was replaced with a Changeling before "Rapture". The Changeling probably made an excuse not to go on the Borg mission since he had plans to destroy DS9 and Bajor.
Do we really think the "A" team would have performed any better in these circumstances?
Hell, might as well send the B team since their ship is probably going to get destroyed anyway. If Earth does get assimilated, The A Team will be needed more than ever.
Changeling Martok had a supply of Klingon blood with him that he could let out on demand during blood screening. Joe Sisko points out this flaw with the blood screening process in Homefront.Same as Martok cutting his hand and bleeding real Klingon blood in Way of The Warrior yet also being in that same prison for what was it, two years or something?
In all honesty, Starfleet really screwed the targ when it came to selections for the fleet in First Contact. They send the Enterprise to the Neutral Zone because they're worried Picard would compromise them. They leave their most advanced ship out of the fight just because its captain had a bad experience with the enemy. Really, if they were so worried about Picard being an unstable element, they should have just relieved him of command and sent the ship into the battle under Riker's command. As it was, the Enterprise D actually was under Riker's command when the ship defeated the Borg last time.If this was Starfleet's approach / overarching philosophy to defending their civilization, the entire Federation would have crumbled about 43 minutes after it was established.
"Hey...let's not put everything we have into defending our capital and all of our leaders...becuase we'll need our REALLY good officers and ships in case that doesn't work out."
Nah....not a good strategy.
And yet still a fraction of how many characters are in Avengers Infinity Wank. But lets be real they couldn't have all the DS9 cast in the film not only because it would have cost to much but also because that's to many characters to have in the film.
