"Birthright"

The first hour of this 2-part episode was on H&I on Friday night (before i posted this) and i'm a fan of this episode merely because of the DS9 crossover. I always get a kick out of that scene with Picard and Beverly walking down the DS9 Promenade. They could've grabbed a drink from Quark's bar while they were at it! Also, that was a really well-put-together scene with Data meeting Bashir in Sickbay while Bashir was in the middle of his little experiment, and Data having those visions about his "father." Nice. I still don't understand what the black hawk was supposed to represent.

Other than that here are a couple of things that bothered me about the episode:
- The crossover with DS9 should've dragged into "Birthright, Part 2". It feels strange that "Birthright" is a two-hour episode but there is no crossover in the second hour.
- It also feels strange seeing Worf on the Promenade and Replimat in this episode since he would go on to be a regular on the DS9 show. Maybe Data and Geordi would've been the better option for the Replimat scene and maybe instead of that creepy alien claiming to know Worf's father, that same creepy alien could approach Data regarding Dr. Soong or Lore or something of that sort.
- According to this episode's memory-alpha.wikia page, Terry Farrel (Jadzia's actress) was supposed to guess star on TNG for the crossover but couldn't due to filming "Move Along Home" so they had Bashir taking her place. I would've liked it better if Jadzia were in this episode instead. Not that i don't like Bashir though.

Nonetheless, nice crossover event!

Worf and Dax in the same place at the same time but failing to meet until 3 years later...

Dax obviously met Riker during this episode though.

O'Brien? NOWHERE TO BE FOUND! I mean WTH? The man served on that ship 6 years, & we don't get a reunion of any kind?

Too bad we didn't get to see another face off between Sisko and Picard.

I thought Worf's story was more interesting than Data's. It didn't bother me that part 2 was all about Worf's adventure.

O'Brien's scenes as he says goodbye to Picard were dealt with on The Emissary but was cut from there.

I enjoyed Birthright. They are nice brace of episodes. Worf gives a spirited defence of his culture in the 2nd part although that's often slated as he upsets a peaceful micro-society that had put aside the ways of war. That didn't bother me though.

Oh, I know that he said his farewells in the DS9 pilot, which btw wasn't long after his wife had just gotten accidentally turned into a little girl, but at the time of Birthright, it's some weeks or months later, around some time between DS9's Q-Less & Dax, & here you got Enterprise people wandering about the promenade (& even Geordi mentioning to Worf that he should talk to Miles about the replicators still needing work) & Nothing? We get to see no one catching up with him to see how he's settling in there? Kinda disappointing is all

There he goes again. :barf2::klingon::scream: Worf is so full of himself when it comes to Klingon culture. Worf is like a cultural chauvinist.

I had mixed opinions about Worf's behavior. I can understand Worf wanting to tell the kids about the universe beyond their isolated compound. But to insist that it is obscene for Klingons to mix with Romulans, Worf seemed to have a closed mind.

What was so wrong about those Klingons living a lifestyle that is different than the fanatical warrior lifestyle that Worf sees as real Klingon culture? It had to be Worf's way or no way.

I liked the episode (part 2) because, among other reasons, it wasn't so straightforward.

Birthright Part 1 was filmed and aired at the same time as a trilogy of episodes O'Brien didn't appear in. He was on Earth with Keiko and Molly. He wasn't on the station for the Enterprise's visit.

Oh... but he is in Q-Less though, & Birthright (Stardate 46578.4) happens between Q-Less (46531.2) and Dax (46910.1) & he isn't announced as having left for his mother-in-law's birthday until the opening log of Dax. I just assumed he was still around, for Birthright. In fact, it was Geordi's commenting that he was going to speak to O'Brien about the bad food replication that got me thinking he was still around

Maybe he hitched a ride ON the Enterprise after Birthright, over to the Arkaria base, where they get the baryon sweep in their next episode, Starship Mine (46682.4) & caught a ride home to Earth from there, & we just never saw it lol

Which the real life reason was because he was filming a movie during those few weeks. He was unavailable for both series at that time.

Side note... in "THE SHIP", when he and Muniz were talking about mountains and such, it was a nod to a recent movie he had done. Something along the lines of I WENT UP A HILL BUT CAME DOWN A MOUNTAIN. I forget the exact title, but it was a long one.

After his last not-so-friendly reunion with (Tom) Riker, maybe O'Brien thought it best to avoid any more reunions on DS9 with former crewmates.

Yeah but that took place two years after Enterprise D's visit at DS9 (from "Birthright 1" anyway).
