remember how 3D movies was a new technology back in the 1950s?

Except nobody mentioned "the newest model holoprojectors!" they talked about holoprojectors full stop.as in the last loop:
just because there were black and white TV sets around in the 40s and 50s, it doesn't mean that my shiny, brandnew 8K HD flatscreen is somehow not new technology
'Have you seen my newest model dishwasher?', is not something anyone would say. 'my new dishwasher', however...Except nobody mentioned "the newest model holoprojectors!" they talked about holoprojectors full stop.
Discovery is the most pedantic application of continuity I've ever seen. They ignore the intent and spirit of the original shows while claiming (incorrectly) to keep to the letter of them.
Why would he have to specify the new holo-communicator if there had never been an old holo-communicator?Then explain to me what O'Brien meant by "The new holo-communicator I installed it works perfectly" in DS9: "For the Uniform" if this is technology they've had all over Starfleet ships for 125 years?
In this case, a new model holocomm which is infinitely less useful and flexible than the one they had 125 years ago'Have you seen my newest model dishwasher?', is not something anyone would say. 'my new dishwasher', however...
Technology is cyclical.
Why would he have to specify the new holo-communicator if there had never been an old holo-communicator?
on top of that: 2273 holograms also look absolutely life like, while 2256 holograms still can be easily identified as hologramsIn this case, a new model holocomm which is infinitely less useful and flexible than the one they had 125 years ago
2256: Holograms can be projected anywhere, they can walk around and interact with scenery. They're used for graphics and as mirrors.
2273: Hologram can stand perfectly still in a little rectangular area. No other functions shown. Yay.
No no, that's just the visuals which don't matter, remember? I'm talking about the story-altering technology they use.on top of that: 2273 holograms also look absolutely life like, while 2256 holograms still can be easily identified as holograms
DATA: This woodland pattern is quite popular, sir. Perhaps because it duplicates Earth so well. Coming here almost makes me feel human myself. No no, that's just the visuals which don't matter, remember? I'm talking about the story-altering technology they use.
And hilariously, the DS9 holos look better because they didn't have the real life technology to make them look instantly recognisable to the viewer as holograms.
We've been doing that for decades in this fandom, is this the first time you're mad about it? "The fact one of my ancestors married a human female..." "Vulcan has no moon." "Your world of starship captains doesn't admit women."Pedantic continuity, ignoring the original intent and spirit of the show.
But DSC has mirror mode which shows perfect holographic versions of the characters.DATA: This woodland pattern is quite popular, sir. Perhaps because it duplicates Earth so well. Coming here almost makes me feel human myself.
RIKER: I didn't believe these simulations could be this real.
DATA: Much of it is real, sir. If the transporters can convert our bodies to an energy beam, then back to the original pattern again
RIKER: Yes, of course. And these rocks and vegetation have much simpler patterns.
DATA: Correct, sir. The rear wall.
RIKER: I can't see it.
DATA: We're right next to it.
I mean, it's not like I'm making this shit up
on my re-binge watch last week I noticed those mirror holograms were actually mirrored (kudos to whoever did this, they didn't have to and nobody would have noticed)But DSC has mirror mode which shows perfect holographic versions of the characters.
They look 100% real, so it doesn't fit.
One or two lines is fine. But we're at the point where we have to head-canon some bollocks to explain how literally everything fits in regard to the other shows. We've been doing that for decades in this fandom, is this the first time you're mad about it? I see the show as a reboot, where in this version they have different technology, Spock has a sister, there was no Augment Virus. It's so much easier.
17 pages of this thread and loads of others tell me otherwise.Nope.
And since they're retconning everything, it's essentially a new continuity, different from The Original Series.Accepting these "inconsistencies" as the Retcons they're clearly intended to be is easier... and more accurate.

I picked three lines from one series that were later contradicted by installments of that same series. One or two lines is fine.
"Literally everything" = holograms that are visually degraded from future holograms, a "missing sister" for a guy who refers to his father as "one of his ancestors" at one point, and some Klingon makeup? We had more contradictions within Star Trek season one than we have when comparing Discovery to the previous fifty years of Trek. But we're at the point where we have to head-canon some bollocks to explain how literally everything fits in regard to the other shows.
