Scruffy-looking untitled Han Solo film thread

I think I preferred the Superbowl teaser over the proper trailer. The trailer is alright. Ehrenreich is passable as a young Han. I wouldn't say he "nails it" but he isn't objectionable either. Donald Glover definitely nails it as Lando, though. Everything else is kind of meh, with the end showing the Falcon flying through the monster teeth or whatever seeming to go for the nostalgia thing. It's like that South Park storyline with the Member Berries. "Member the Space Slug in Empire?" "I member."

BTW, is that Maz we see briefly at the 36 second mark?

Maybe. Black Holes, tentacle monsters....same thing...sort of.

12 parsecs though. Cause everyone has seen too much on the internet to know where tentacle are going.

The visuals are cool.
Donald Glover makes a kickass Lando.

But I’m still not sold.

I thought it was to start with but upon further review, I do not think it is...........shape of head and eyes don't look quite right. Unless she looks different younger and without her glasses. So 50/50 right now. We all look like hell after 40+ years ;-)

I now know why it’s called just "Solo".

Because that’s not Han.

The movie may turn out to be quite good, but Alden Ehrenreich so far has zero charisma that Harrison Ford’s Han had. No wonder they hardly show him in the trailer. Still interested in the movie though (a hell lot more than Episode IX in fact).

Now, for the record, I've never been keen on this film. I just can't get excited about it.

That said, I thought this was a pretty solid teaser in many ways. The world looks mostly right. Lived in. Maybe a little more Blade Runner than Star Wars in places, but considering this is supposed to be the seedy underbelly of the universe, that makes sense. Donald Glover is so completely Lando with just a costume and a facial expression that it put a smile on my face. And who doesn't love Chewie?

But considering the movie is nominally about Han, we see very, very little of him. And what little we do see... well, let's just say that I'm not at all sold on the actor. His line delivery is super forced and he completely lacks any kind of rogueish charm or charisma. That could just be awkward sampling for the teaser, and not indicative of the final product, but it isn't inspiring confidence.

Yeah, still not enthused about this film at all. Probably going to pass on this until it hits VOD.

I wonder if that is a difficult thing. I mean, I get that he is supposed to be a younger Han Solo, but not everyone starts out that charismatic. The brief scene between Alden and Emilia was decent enough for me to get a "Han" vibe, whatever that means.

Now, it needs to be asked - would the Solo comedy they were originally making have been better??

The longer trailer was good.
Ehrenreich (or however you spell his name, I don't feel like looking it up right now), seems like he should be OK. He doesn't seem to have the charisma and charm of Harrison Ford, but very few people do.
Everything thing else about the movie looks great, once again they did an awesome job of recreating the look and feel of the OT era.
We didn't get to hear any dialogue, but Donald Glover does look like Lando.
Love the look for the Falcon, I was a bit surprised to see the white walls, I had always assumed they were just always the color we saw in the OT.

We still don't know the tone of what Lord & Miller were doing and just how much of a "comedy" it was. Our only information comes from the piece that was in The Hollywood Reporter about two hours after their firing was announced--that's where the reports of the tone, the loose nature of filming, Ehrenreich's acting coach and so on, came from--and that piece was ridiculously one-sided, very obviously planted by Lucasfilm / Disney to get out in front of the story. (You don't have all of that information and those quotes ready to go at a moment's notice unless you've been fed directly by the studio in advance.)

Mark One Imperial Star Destroyer. Standard TIE Fighters. And some new TIE that I guess have heavier weapons, but was likely replace sometime before Star Wars: Rebels. Maybe an earlier anti-ship fighter that was replaced by the TIE Bomber.

I wouldn't be surprised if by the end of the film that the Falcon gets really trashed. I'm not sure what the movie is about but since Woody Harrelson is putting a crew together I'm guessing it's a heist movie. it looks good though I have to say Ehrenreich's voice is a little annoying. It will take a bit to get used to it since he sounds different than Ford.

I wasn't worried about this film until now, but the same concerns I had with The Force Awakens in regards to the tonal nature of Star Wars are cropping back up.

Lawrence Kasdan just doesn't understand what makes Star Wars what it is, and while I get that Lucasfilm wants to expand the types of stories that can be told within the broader tonal framework of the franchise and think that there's room to do so, Lawrence Kasdan is not really the best person to be tasked with doing so.

Maybe seeing the film itself will change my mind, which is what happened with Rogue One, but for now I'm not anywhere as excited as I was for The Last Jedi.
