CBS/Paramount sues to stop Axanar

So, basically, ethics, shmethics?
More economics.

Most fan conventions and small film festivals often struggle to break even. They'll take whatever funds from whatever fan groups they can get. If the return is a mention/small award (that the group also pays for) they take the money and console themselves that it help keep the event afloat.

Okay, I get this isn't exactly the Alec Peters Fan Club (TM), but comparing him to mass-murdering cult leaders is a bit much.
I get what you're saying but I have seen MANY of his followers exhibit cult like behavior and devotion to AP...........I have read things that really made me question peoples sanity. It's a fucking fan film of a 50 year old TV show and people are sending death threats and cyberstalking each other.........WTF. So I ALSO get what @137th Gebirg is saying.

Do any of them think that the Axanar Lawsuit heralded the End Times? Do they practice polygamy? Has Alec Peters cajoled them into entering a suicide pact? No? Then my point stands.

He didn't accuse Alec Peters of stalking or death threats. If AP has actually being doing those things, or conspiring with others to do so, then fair enough, but @137th Gebirg was talking about AP literally making poison Kool-Aid. I think it's fair to call him on that.

It was more of a tongue-in-cheek response to what @KennyB correctly described as his followers' "cult like behavior". Definitely was NOT meant to be taken literally, obviously. Goodness!

It was a joke...I kid, I kid... :)

Even if it isn't full WACO level wackoness, I can definitely see what @KennyB and @137th Gebirg are talking about. The total and complete devotion AP's followers show towards him and his non-existent film, is honestly a bit cultish and seriously kind of scary.

The only reason Prelude ended up as good as it was is because of the pros AP conned into working on it, and I think the fact that they started abandoning the project fairly soon after it came out says a lot about him.

Only if they take into the context of the word Vulcan. Also being the Roman God of Fire, I would think it's impossible to trademark that name.

To be fair, if everyone who plans to make a movie and fails is a liar, then there are probably a heck of a lot of "liars" out there. Hanlon's Razor and all.

If that was his only lie I'd agree but it is one of many. My problem is with him trying to collect yet more money on the basis on making a film that won't be made.

And I'm one of the opinion that there was a time when he actually did want to make the movie and planned to, but he got overambitious, the money went to his head and we are where we are where there is basicaly no chance let it will ever be made but he's stilll going to try to get more money from people for it.

He hasn't even delivered on the promises from the last IGG to "save" industry studios. Those were supposed to be delivered in November which incliuded the Origins DVD. Nothing at all on any of that and no word from AP on them either.

I think it's more the misuse of funds and starting a business that bothers me.

Stockholm Syndrome is in fashion lately. What can I say? Seriously, take the grim & macabre factors out of the picture and LFIM wields the same kind of control and influence some of those narcissists did (ostensibly still, to cover up for his gigantic fraud/con game)

Easier to do online.

So, is that fraud? I really feel like the donors have legal standing to sue, but I don't know the law.

If it’s fraud, even though many people were only defrauded by a small amount each, a letter writing campaign (Star Trek fans are known for that !) to one specific recommended Police address might catch their attention?

If an office receives hundreds of letters, they might look into it a little deeper?

If someone in that office is a Star Trek fan, they might look a bit deeper still...

I paid money for an Axanar DVD, having been (mis)led to believe Axanar was a licensed project, and I’d send a letter.

Maybe someone knows the right address and Axamonitor can publicise it ? I don’t want to lead any such campaign, but I would certainly write a letter.
