How could they have made DISC fit in more with THE CAGE?

Colorizing the uniforms would be enough for me.

Yep 100% should have been done from the start of the series. Could have just then said the Discovery uniforms are an update of the Cage turtlenecks.

Another change I would have made is have orange beams and orange around the doors in Discovery

Not literally this, but something more like this. Everything is just too silver/blue in Discovery. There isn't any colour.

I would have crew members have 1960s style haircuts, even the beehive would be seen in the background as a shoutout to TOS.

Last but not least. That goddamn party scene would have had people wearing 1960s futurist fashion.

This still still looks cool and futuristic even till this day.
Discovery is seriously a show of missed potential when it comes to the aesthetics, frankly they've been extremely lazy with it all. Any designer worth their salt would have a field day working to do a visual upgrade of the TOS/Cage era. The 1960s aesthetics are so nice looking and still work well today.

It DOESN'T look like it's from the future. AT ALL. It looks like it's from the 60s. You know why? Because it's from the 60s! We KNOW it's from the 60s. Those outfits would not be out of place in Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me. Discovery is looking forward at the future from NOW. Not 1967. And there is not one thing about Star Trek that doesn't scream 1967. Because that is when it was made. It helped to DEFINE the decade.

People who think Discovery could have legitimately gotten away with a 60s-inspired aesthetic are living in a fantasyland of their own making, and since visuals don't actually matter, trying to use the lack of a 60s aesthetic as a knock against the series falls apart pretty quickly.

Of course Discovery is in the Prime Universe. Its TOS that isn't! TOS is in the "Make everything look like its from a 60s TV show universe".

Just like ENT was just a holo-novel and DS9 was Benny Russell's dream. ;)

And VOY was the Caretaker's fantasy world, TNG was all Q's humanity trial, and TOS was a Talosian illusion. Only Discovery, and I guess the Animated Series, is in the Prime Timeline.

Really? They said the quantum signatures match, so you can't use that excuse this time. Or does no one mention the Federation was briefly conquered in the 2250s on the other shows? Hell, General Martok even said the Klingons never attacked Earth or even attempted it. So how can we be in a Prime Universe where the Klingons have conquered the Federation?

Obviously they'll use the accidental time travel they created to fix it.

Isn't that a bit anticlimactic though? The grand two part finale to the season is basically a remake of Yesterday's Enterprise?
