I think there was a lot of pieces still in motion when the comic started (hence why issue #2 that was supposed to come out mid-November came out at the end of January) so it's totally possible that was a name at one point. I don't remember then giving it a sub-title when it was first announced, I think it was just "Star Trek: Discovery". I'd have to ask Sarah.

Yes! This is what they announced at STLV in August 2017. "This first one is four issues, and we've batted around a few ideas. Hopefully we get to do a series of minis" is what Mike Johnson said at the time. We're getting a Stamets comic too and now a Mirror Universe story so it seems that's all coming to pass.
