Colorful costumes really wouldn't make sense for this incarnation of the Legion, especially not on the particular mission that brought them back to the past in the first place, which clearly required a lot of stealth.

A dark period is exactly the reason why the Legion should be unabashedly colorful, to send a message that they--as heroes--are not consumed by the dark enemies/universe they live in.

Sometimes, messaging is necessary.

Better than average episode for this show, but again the "where's Superman" problem exists. This is a huge threat, and would absolutely get his attention. They even MENTIONED him, so it just doesn't make sense that no one said, "hey, should we call Clark?"

Well, you know the reason this series only pays lip service to Superman's existence. Moreover, in next week's episode, you will see SG's other allies...and from the clips I've seen (not the full episode), there's no mention of why Superman is not only absent, but never called in the first place. In fact, James--being Superman's best friend, and knowing Kara was in a coma--should have called him if for no other reason to tell him how his cousin was doing...and ask for help.

She already lived there so she didn't have to commute?

Dare I admit that part of me was disappointed that Streaky wasn't orange and didn't have a little red cape?

I have a theory... the Legion wasn't inspired by Supergirl's, but Streaky's heroics, hence the black costumes.

Well, with the show loving the secret identity frenemy thing, it seems like there's one obvious way to go; season 4, Kara adopts Dex-starr.

I was watching "Live with Kelly and Ryan" last week and heard the cutest spoiler. Evidently this actress has a 12 year old daughter that thinks the sun rises and sets on Melissa Benoist, so the actress thought how "cool" it would be to introduce her to the actress. Of course, the easiest way to introduce her during filming season would be to get herself a guest casting gig so she could bring her kid to Vancouver for the week and meet everyone on the show.

She did not mention who she would be playing, but IMDB already knows.

Now... I am still trying to figure out if being someone's mom is a good thing (like Alex's) or a bad thing (like Lena's).

The actress in question has most recently played Ladybird's mom.

I just never got into popular music, at least nothing later than the Beatles and the Monkees. I prefer instrumental music, film and TV soundtracks, classical, sometimes jazz. My upbringing may have had something to do with that, since my father was an announcer-programmer at our local classical radio station. But part of it is that I just don't like the sound of heavy drumbeats or blaring electric guitars. "Popularity" has nothing to do with it -- I've never understood the logic of choosing what to like based on what other people like.

Supergirl--
"Fort Rozz"

Kara/SG: She can't "hope" her way out of every situation. That's naïve. Even Reeves' Superman knew there was no reaching / compromising with Luthor.

Reign: Hearing those voices/call right after hugging Lena. Reign might be a zealot in punishing the allegedly guilty, but it seems she sensed the truth about Lena.

Saturn Girl: See Mon-El.

Psi/Livewire: Villain bickering rarely works--and it did not here. Writers seem to be brain-locked into thinking they cannot possibly be on the same page or "play nice." This has been a problem in comics and adaptations for decades, and it should be retired in favor of villains who do not immediately act like a dog spotting another in the local park, or worse, an episode of Challenge of the Super Friends.

Alex: Using her government credentials to harass a child. Yeah, that's not an abuse of power....

J'onn & Mon-El: Other than the constant teasing of Saturn Girl ultimately "gifting" Mon-El to Supergirl (because...you know....her own marriage must take a back seat to Supergirl's TeenNick desires), he was pretty useless in this episode.

J'onn was just playing "I'm the authority figure. See the hands on my hips?!?" and not much else.

Braniac & Winn: Nerd war was pretty funny.

Lena: Never sold on her being--or trying to be a different Luthor. She just seems more patient (with hidden plans) than her relatives.

James: Who?

Then, there's a star with properties poisonous to males. How predictable. This series is not going to age well.

Okay, how did a fort that Supergirl just pushed into space -- rather slowly at that -- end up in orbit of another star parsecs away just a year and a half later? More likely it'd just be in an elliptical orbit around our Sun, not too far off of Earth's orbit.

Also, blue stars are hotter than yellow stars, just as yellow stars are hotter than red stars. If anything, Supergirl's powers should be even stronger under a blue star.

It doesn't seem right that there are so few female superheroes on Earth-38 that Supergirl had to recruit a pair of villains to help her. Come to think of it, whatever happened to Winn's superstrong alien girlfriend?

Ooh, good catch. Should have noticed, didn't.

Another solid episode, I thought. I wasn't entirely convinced that taking Livewire and Psi along was worth the risk -- Leslie, maybe, Kara had already made some slight inroads with her, but Psi? She had never exhibited anything but unrepentant villainy. Still, she turned the tide against Reign, so guess the proof is in the pudding. (And she had a nice creepy quality, with the nursery rhyme and calling Reign "Blackbird.")

It was fun seeing another side of Brainy, one very true to many of his comics portrayals: the arrogance and impatience that comes with that twelfth level intellect.

Maybe I shouldn't have been, but I was genuinely surprised (and saddened) by Leslie's death.

A good selection of funny lines: "Full disclosure -- I'm not a good babysitter"; "She's even braver than I thought"; "Of course not! Why would that be useful?"; "She's not wrong."

I was a little confused by the creatures in the fog -- were they were supposed to be illusions? Hallucinations?

Okay, rewatched the scene, and they're real enough. Think part of what confused me was how they and Leslie ended up suddenly floating in space without an apparent hull breach or anything, which is still not clear to me even on rewatch.

Oh, and if Supergirl was willing to recruit villains to help her, what about Silver Banshee? We haven't heard from her since "Worlds Finest." Apparently she's been languishing in prison ever since. I'm sure the selection of team members here was largely down to actor availability and guest star budget, but it would've been nice to check back in with Siobhan, maybe have Winn appeal to their past relationship to get her to help.

Overall, ok episode with a flimsy set up and ridiculously bad science. There is no way Fort Rozz would be orbiting another star without FTL propulsion. Also, the idea that blue stars emit special radiation that is poison to men and that neutralizes Supergirl's powers, is quite silly. There is also no way Voyager 1 would be able to boost a signal to a ship orbiting another star since it has just barely left the edge of our solar system and it would not be capable of sending FTL signals which would be required to reach Supergirl so quickly. And if they were sending radio signals, those would take years traveling at the speed of light to reach Supergirl so they would be pointless.

The good parts were the action scenes on Fort Rozz, especially between Reign and LiveWire and Psi and the banter between Brainiac and Wynn. Brainiac is quickly becoming one of my favorite new characters on the show. The suspenseful atmosphere on Fort Rozz was good too.
