I did notice that in Spock's bangs you could see a strip of hair that was lighter. As to Kirk, I liked him with lighter hair, the blond look.

I thought he'd gotten a weave or hair plugs by then.

Most disturbing fact was that DeForest Kelley wore a syrup and none of us guessed! :wtf:

    A syrup?

If that means a toupee, I certainly did. His eyebrows were tweaked as well. Yet everyone focused on Shatner...

Rhyming slang. Syrup of fig = wig. I never did understand rhyming slang.

I saw Kelley the other day in "All Our Yesterdays" and the wind was blowing a gale and I was watching their hair after reading this thread and I thought well neither Nimoy or Kelly are wearing a wig so what would I know?

The Nim had his hair styled that way and had to endure the look while at home I guess for months until it was confirmed the show wouldn't be renewed!

Shatner’s piece stayed on in windstorm scenes as well. The Empath and Mudd’s Women have the wind gusting pretty hard.

Kelley’s helmet was no different. If you compare his early episode (and pre-series ) look to later in the first year, it gets suspicious. Since nobody ever mentioned it, as opposed to zeroing in on Shatner, I didn’t pay it as much mind. Hairpieces are common in the industry. But especially over the last bunch of years, I strongly suspected.

Unlike with Shatner, there isn’t a website analyzing his hair loss.

    So whose hair is real?

Nicholls and Barrett wore wigs on occasion. Koenig.definitely wore a wig.
    Nimoy, Takei and Doohan didn't.
Shatner and Kelley? That article talks up Kelley's hair. Surely they wouldn't if it was a wig.

It’s worth pointing out that this “news story” was written by NBC’s publicity department. They released it as a regional exclusive (July 6, 1967), complete with art, to newspapers looking for content to fill their pages.

Scotty had three different hairstyles in the series so would probably have loved to have worn a wig for the fourth! Sulu's hair didn't change that much, just got a thicker bonce of hair for the third season! Nimoy's snaps at home show him with his pudding basin hair style a lot so he wasn't sporting a toupe! Next you'll be telling me that Grace Lee Whitney wore a wig too!!! :wah:

That's silly. The moment they wrapped he could let his hair grow. They'd cut and style his hair as soon as he reported back to work if/when they resumed production.

    This.

Moreover, it wasn't "months" between wrap on the series and the official cancellation notice. NBC publicly announced their fall schedule for 1969-70, sans Star Trek, on February 18, 1969. [link] "Turnabout Intruder" wrapped production on January 9, 1969. So...about five weeks. Internally, the cast and crew may have known even earlier than the public date.

The cast knew a lot sooner than the public. Joan Winston visited the set of "The Turnabout Intruder" and related her story in Star Trek Lives (Bantam, 1975). When the episode wrapped, workers immediately started tearing down (destroying) the Enterprise interior sets. The cast was pretty sad about it.

I think at least some of the separable Bridge pieces were given to the theater department at UCLA, but most of the standing sets just had to be trashed.
