Restoring TAS

I used to wish TAS used TOS music, but I now agree that the music is part of TAS's unique style.

The only things I would want changed are obvious errors in animation such as incorrect colors, reversed images, peoples' mouths not moving when they are supposed to (or vice versa), etc. I also wish the "tinny" quality of the audio could be improved.

Bring Messrs. Nimoy, Kelley, and Doohan back from the beyond and have all the cast in the same room speaking their lines not in hushed tones in a vocal booth, but as if uttered on a set.

actually: May they all rest in peace.

This would probably be the only acceptable change, beyond fixing the animation errors and color correction. But, I would also want the original tracks available as well in any release.

I am well aware this is the result of Hal Sutherland's colorblindness, and I mean absolutely ZERO disrespect to him or anyone else with that condition, but here's something that really ought to be fixed:

The pink uniforms.

Yeah, in half of her already sparse shots, M'Ress had the bridge of her nose painted black, blending with her actual nose "pad" and thus made her look like an anorexic koala!

Okay, I admit mine is a petty complaint. I just like using absurd description "anorexic koala".

I fear any effort to "restore" TAS would result in things which aren't broken being "fixed"
And things that are broken being neglected and remaining unfixed.

To us, it's not really the color to associate with a vicious predator/warrior culture. But cultural values can be radically different. Maybe it's the color of Kzinti blood or something.

The only reason I even brought it up was because Sutherland didn't intend to make those uniforms pink. IIRC, he wanted them to be gray, but his colorblindness meant he couldn't tell the difference.

The most I would want them to do to TAS is fix some of the animation and coloring errors. The music gives it a distinctive feel separate from TOS.
I like TAS and the distinctive music. The only thing I'd like them to do is fix some errors I noticed. Like there was an ep where one character had left the bridge and when the next scene was shown the character was still in the background. Stuff like that.

He was there forever, if people realized he was colorblind then how come no one ever said anything?

And people keep maligning pink all the time as if it was some godawful color. Are people afraid the Kzinti will be seen as "girly" because their ship is pink? And pink as being "girly" is a fairly modern and silly construct.

Responding to comments concerning CGI: A CGI remastered TAS has been proposed, and reproposed many times by the fandom, but the PTB never have and probably never will bite. It would be interesting, as it would open the door for essentially building a proper season 4/5 to TOS one pixel resolution at a time. Maybe in a universe where the TOS CGI series which was considered many times in the 90s/2000s actually went forward, such a thing would have been a logical project to expand off such a revenue stream. But in the world we've got, it would be expensive, and far too much cost for a limited consumer base.

I assume they didn't realize, which is why it happened and kept happening. No one thought to question it. But that said, I'm only aware of the legend, not the facts.

I can't speak for anyone else, but gots no problem with pink...except when it keeps showing up in weird places. :)

Apropos of nothing, Maurice, but your current avatar reminds me of the "Omni Viewer" a YouTube personality who reviews kaiju cinema.

Is it really that expensive? Sure repackaging old material with commentary is relatively cheap. The idea of making changings to TAS to make it season 4 or 5 of TOS is appealing.

This. For all we know, pink may be the manliest color in all of Kzinti culture.

Just because it's CGI doesn't mean it has to be photorealistic (ala Tarkin in Rogue One) CGI.

I don't know where to draw the line but ideally it should still be cartoony with the TAS-like color-palette (where Kirk has that orange-brown hair).

It would probably be best not to just drop in stock TOS music cues but to make all new music. Maybe recreate the Filmation cues and improve/expand upon them because they are just repetitive to the point of torturous.
