Making a movie centered on a fanservice character with little depth is just a bad idea. I seriously doubt they'll bother giving Catwoman and Ivy more to do that walk around looking sexy either.

Oh this should be good. What do you think was Coppola's point?
He didn't mention Marvel once in that entire post.

? You don't mean Black Widow do you?

Godfather was supposed to be about the horrors of the mob. Instead, it kicked off a new generation of fascination with organized crime and even inspired actual mobsters to model themselves after it.

Of course, this happens a lot with Gangster movies, they keep trying to do "Crime doesn't pay" stories but make the Gangsters too cool and successful to NOT make it come off the opposite.

The Godfather was celebrated because it was a masterful study of not only a Mafia family, but the fall of the once innocent Michael--who became worse than his father (and his enemies). In other words, he lost his soul. That was the point everyone understood when originally released, which made the film and its first sequel film classics.

Scarface (1983) & Goodfellas (1990) were the films accurately cited as sending messages misread by certain parts of the public. Instead of seeing those films as cautionary tales (which they most certainly were), they became the source of endless film and TV ripoffs, and a bad cultural model for teens, music stars and others.

Far from everyone. For example interviews seem to say that Suge Knight was so inspired by the Godfather (Vito) that he modeled Death Row Records after his mob, offers you can't refuse and all.

I'll stop you right there because you clearly don't have a clue of what you are talking about. I've read the novel and with the exception of a few subplots(Lucy Manicini and Johnny Fontaines escapades in Vegas), this was one of the most faithful adaptions you'll ever find of a best selling novel. The story is about the family along with the rise of Michael to head of the family and the movie told that story almost exactly the way the novel did.

The story made the point seem to not be "Crime doesn't pay" but "If you're going to be a Don, be a Don like Vito and not like Michael." Message wasn't as clear as it could've been. Still doesn't change that people weren't horrified by the portrayal of a Crime Family, but but thought it was cool.

But the Godfather films are guilty of that as well...so was Taxi Driver for all the people who left thinking how awesome Travis Bickle was.

No, predictably you're just reaching nuclear because I had the balls to say this.

Nope. Wrong again and it's not the movies fault that you can't get a films message without simple plots, stupid one liners and things going boom every ten minutes

People thought the movie and it's characters were cool? Stop the presses.

So what? People thought Hannibal Lecter and Darth Vader was cool. That's what happens when a villain is both well written and well cast.

No, predictably you don't know what you're talking about as usual.

Momoa's Aquaman (and maybe the Flash) was the breakout star of Justice League. I could never imagine me saying, but I'm actually looking forward to the Aquaman movie!

Good still. I'll pay to see this one based on the character's appearance in Justice League. Same with the Flash.

You know, Cyborg's the only one who didn't really register with me, but he's also the only DC character that didn't exist back during my immersive comic buying/reading phase (roughly ages 5-13). Based on JL I'd look forward to a new Batman movie and certainly another Superman. Superman, always. And Wonder Woman's already got me in the theater line based on her solo movie.

I have to agree. Cyborg was the weakest of the bunch. Not as recognizable as the trinity, not as badass as Aquaman (who knew I'd say that), not as funny as Flash, not as charismatic or memorable as either five of them...

They'll have an uphill battle if they plan to make a Cyborg movie. My advice? Copy and "steal" whatever you can from the two Injustice videogames and of course from RoboCop (1987).

I never noticed before that the tattoos on his arms and shoulders almost a little like the patern of the scaley costume the comic version of the character wears.

Calm down man, I'm just pointing out that the message wasn't as well conveyed as it could have been. Happens a lot with Gangster movies. Godfather's message of the horrors of Organized Crime were bogged down by how attractive the movies made it all look.

And frankly, it isn't like Godfather doesn't have one-liners.

By comparison, Princess Mononoke did a VERY good job showing us the horrors of war. The two sides get ready for battle, and then instead of showing us the battle and moments some audience members might see as noble or heroic the movie cuts right to the aftermath where all we see are the dead bodies and ravaged land. No way for anyone to misinterpret the Anti-War message there.

If the point was to make them repugnant....

Eh, Vader's case was helped more that Luke was very boring and Vader had more than 1 movie. Lecter is an utterly misguided fandom though.

You're taking this a bit hard, IMO.

I love all the DC superhero movies and look forward to them. I never got into the Marvel ones except for Spiderman.
