so the producers and writers said that discovery will lead into TOS (60's aesthetics and all)...

Like I said, not that drastic. It received heavy upgrades but it's still the same ship.

And about 10% of the original Enterprise is still preserved within the framework of the refitted ship. It's not entirely new no matter how you analyze the refit process. It's still the starship launched under the command of Robert April in 2245, just heavily upgraded and modernized.

Just a completed new stardrive section, nacelles, and detailing on the saucer, as well as a new torpedo bay.

Nope, nothing drastic about that...
Yes it has those new things but it still looks like the Enterprise. Aside from the Nacelles and the added torpedo bay the star drive has the same basic shape as the other one...

Yeah, I think they kept some of the chairs, the toilet seats on C-deck, and the sofa cushions in the recreation deck (they used to be in the crew's lounge). And they probably used the same screws to mount the new dedication plaque.

Totally the same ship.

According to "Mr Scott's Guide to the Enterprise" they are nearly identical from the refit to the A :P
Yes, but in that case they are LITERALLY two completely different starships. The Enterprise-A wasn't even a refit, it was literally built that way.

That sort of undercuts the "it's basically the same ship" argument. The Refit Enterprise bears a closer resemblance to a redesigned starship that is completely unrelated to the Enterprise than it does to the original Enterprise.

It seems pretty easy to do. Right now, there is Starfleet, which is dominated by humanity and there is the Vulcan Expeditionary Force, which is seemingly dominated by the (semi-autonomous) Vulcans. I see semi-autonomous because the Expeditionary Force its a force with a centuries-long history, unknown size and force... that remains exclusive to Vulcans 90 years into the Federation experiment. The planet conducts independent foriegn policy during a time of war.

Over the course of the series, the seeds have been sewn for Vulcan to fully embrace the federation including merging the VEF into Starfleet. All it would take is showing the VEF with different uniforms (like TPol from Enterprise Season 4) and different aesthetics.

We actually have no idea how the Enterprise-A came to be built. Some sources say it was originally another ship that was renamed (and even if this is true, we don't know if it was refit from the original Constitution specs, or whether it was always built in the configuration we saw it in), others say it was built new from the keel up as an Enterprise. The canon hasn't spoken, either way.
