Downright pathetic and unworthy of Forbs' brand.

Can't work out if that is meant to be a joke from the writer?

So the extended Christmas weekend has brought another $100 Million to it's domestic total and the movie will surpass $400 million in North America tomorrow after 11 days of release. The International numbers haven't been updated ($377 million at last count) but it's easily already passed $400 million.

The film should be pass the $1 billion mark by this time next week.

It's over, Didny is finished and bankrupt.

It's only the second movie of a new Trilogy. It should be building on the success of TFA, not the opposite.

1, Except it has never worked that way for any of the Star Wars trilogies. When they’re the movies that have set nearly every Hollywood standard in absolutely everything, why on earth would anyone expect this one to break the trend?

2. For most non-hardcore fans, it’s not the second in a trilogy. It’s the third ‘new’ Star Wars movie. Something made obvious by R1’s home release only being around 6 months ago, and the new movie not even being advertised as part of a trilogy.

Come to think of it, do we even know that IX is a conclusion? AFAIK, they just haven’t announced anything beyond it. Post TLJ, I’m not exactly taking it for granted that they won’t pull a ‘gotcha’.

The number thtwill matter to disney/LFL, will be the fnal net profit, Gross is fun to look at, but to studios net profits are what really counts.

You have production costs, which they've recovered
Marketing costs
legal fees
taxes
licensing, and merchandising costs
Theater costs
etc
Guess what? They've calculated all of that already. They have already decided to go forward with IX and giving Johnson his own trilogy. There is nothing financially that seems to be bothering them at this point. Or, as a VFX artist friend of mine would say, "Nobody is losing their job over TLJ's performance."

69 percent drop in Christmas weekend. This is shocking. The movie is basically a flop at this point. You sales down too. Expect Rian Johnson to be taken off any future Disney projects. His career is pretty much over due to this massive disaster!
The movie is under performing, but it's hardly a flop.

Typically the second story in a trilogy has the lowest numbers, in pretty much all media.
Honestly, now that Star War is more of a regular thing I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see some of the numbers drop a bit. TFA had to draw of being the first new movie, and RO had both the appeal of being the first "Star Wars story" movie, and the ANH connection to draw people in.

I didn't see any projections before release that had TLJ surpassing TFA at the Box Office or coming close, everyone seem to understood it would make quite a bit less but still be a billion dollar hit. TFA had so much going for it, that making another $2 Billion film was virtually impossible.

Flop? Not by a long shot, but I doubt Disney will be happy with the numbers. Although they had to have known the risks when they greenlit a script full of creative choices that were bound to be controversial.

Either way, I'll always prefer a film that takes risks and doesn't necessarily hit the mark to a crowd-pleaser that plays it safe.

Another point: Disney has this all balanced out, projected and calculated. I highly doubt they'll label it a "flop" since they are continuing the series and expanding that brand.

It's not a flop by any means, what they need to worry about is the fact that pokemon, and nerf are now outselling star wars merchandise. They need to worry if disgruntled fans will go see "Solo", and if they will have incentive to see episode nine.
