Had Voyager gone through the GQ rather than the DQ I believe it would have been a better show. The Founders and Jem'Hadar were already known Voyager could have played a huge roll in the war the came later on. Maybe like going behind enemy lines and 1 ship fighting the Founders alone would have shown Voyager having lasting damage and not looking like a cruise going home. And it could have tied in closer with DS9 rather than just the pilot. Idk just me. BTW how far is the wormhole from the edge of the Gamma Quadrant?

There are a few galactic maps shown during Voyager that I believe show both wormholes. Voyager ends up near the TNG one, but very far from the DS9 one.

A large part of the premise of Voyager was to get away from the familiar settings, politics, and races of TNG & DS9, so they could create and use all new aliens, worlds, empires, etc. To make a new adventure show, a ship show(as opposed to a sci-fi political drama)

They wanted a show that was exploring "new worlds, new civilizations" like in TOS or some of TNG. This was more important at the time, because the sister show, DS9, would be focusing on the same aliens throughout the series.

The DS9 wormhole vanished a couple of times during the show. Could you imagine if they trekked all that way just to find nothing?

And I wasn't much of a DS9 fan, glad Voyager had nothing to do with it.

To be honest I prefer that Voyager did its own thing rather than being a "sister" show like the TC describes even if the execution in the end was lacking.

Like others said, new worlds and new civilization and in general species we have never seen before, that attracted me to Voyager.

Also from what I remember from a map of the Star Trek Milkyway Galaxy, the Gamma Quadrant entrance to the wormhole would still be decades away from the part of space where the Caretaker brought the ship.

I'm also glad they didn't make it a sister show to DS9. For one, it's better to go different. For two, I would have felt compelled to keep watching Voyager even though I wasn't always enjoying it. ;)

Voyager's format wouldn't have leant itself to DS9 as the war heated up, as by the start of the next episode the ship was restored to factory settings and ready for another adventure. Admittedly there wouldn't be any Borg so no Seven which would be one less ridiculous catsuit in Trek, and the Collective could remain a more mysterious and dangerous force.

Unfortunately the ship itself would never have survived, seeing as how the Dominion was the dominant force in the GQ, where as the DQ was more fractured, so facing such a power they wouldn't have made it far except small hit-and-run attacks or reconnaissance so their actions wouldn't make much of an impact on the War, seeing as how it was restricted to the AQ and the Dominion were prevented from entering the wormhole.

That is part of the reason why I have always loved "ALLIANCES" and "THE VOID"... the attempt at creating a mini-Federation in the Delta Quadrant, particularly in the latter episode.

I think that is why, ultimately, Voyager was able out-tech or outwit so many of the species they encountered... there was no real unifying force in that quadrant. That is also one of the key messages of STAR TREK in general, that we are better and stronger working together than being apart.

In fact, it's kind of ironic that the only real unified force in that quadrant is the Borg, but they go about it the evil way, from our perspective.

I always kind of thought that alone should get the whole quadrant together under one banner... fighting and defending against the Borg. History has shown that having a common enemy can bring about great alliances. As large a threat as the Borg are, the Delta Quadrant should have had their own group so large that it makes the Federation look like Playschool.

I'm not so sure, I think the Borg would annihilate the Dominion easily. And Voyager ate Borg for breakfast.

But they didn't want it tied in with DS9, they wanted it tied in with TNG, that's why Q, Barclay, Troi, Riker and Geordie all appeared.

But wasn't that only in the first episode, Caretaker?

Voyager would have the worst of luck if they got lost in the Gamma Quadrant next. Perhaps they should change the captain. One that can use a map. :)

Was Voyager captained poorly in the Delta Quadrant because their Captain didn't follow a Delta Quadrant map??

They shouldn't have been in either the GQ or the DQ, they should've been sent out further into the Beta Quadrant. And probably not that far away either, like only 20 or 30 years away.

Well Nelix tried to get them a map and that went sideways awfully fast, didn't it!

Wasn't there a Jem Hadar soldier in the third Q episode and wasn't that done to promote DS9 at the same time?

The third Q episode is in season 7, and DS9 ended 2 years earlier, so I'm not sure.
