Rose rammed him right before he managed to fly into the gun, nearly killing them both in the process.
Rose saved his life, whereas Finn would have died going for the gun. She made a decision, took a chance, and had no regrets.
You are right, she doesn't have to explain herself. But it would seem kinda helpful to inform your crew and your pilots to get ready for evacuating the ship so that this can go as fast and smooth as possible.
That's explaining herself.

I think we just like to pick stuff apart to have something to rage about. This was a movie, and as SW ones go, better than maybe most. I place it higher than the prequels and the New Hope remake, Force Awakens.

The wrong decision, IMO. She's in a coma now. She saved Finn from certain death by gambling with his and her life. She can be grateful that the script-writer wants to bring her back.

That's explaining herself.

There is not much picking required, when the script-writer leads his "good" characters into the dark by having other "good" characters withhold information. This stuff falls apart when it becomes clear to the audience that their time was wasted watching something that could have easily been avoided from the outset. Even if it requires one of the "good" characters explaining her plans to the other "good" characters.

I saw a tremendous parody on Reddit of what the "fans" would have loved to see. Here is a paste.

"Snoke is a clone of Palpatine, activated by Thrawn in the Unknown Regions. This needed to be discussed as Snoke and Kylo walk down a hallway before stopping to sit on a couch while twi'lek strippers give them lapdances.

When Rey handed Luke that lightsaber, he should have said "Ah! My daughter, you are the Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force. Come, let's train!" Cut to a Rocky montage of Rey and Luke swinging lightsabers and running on the beach in short shorts.

Phasma needed to be revealed as Boba Fett's daughter just so she's connected to the OT in some way. She leads an army of AT-ATs through space while the Resistance unleashes more X-Wings than there were Riders of Rohan at Helms Deep. Its so epic. So many CGI dudes die in the background. Poe kills lots of dudes. Phasma twirls her mustache and flees into space.

The last scene of the movie is Rey and Luke landing on Snoke's ship in the hangar and killing all of the Stormtroopers using Force Crush. Then another ship approaches. It is Old Leia. Luke and Leia hold hands and say "Wonder twins! Activate!" and the ghosts of Obi Wan, Yoda, and Anakin ignite their sabers. This group of Super Friends fights Snoke and Kylo for three hours until Snoke reveals that he is Rey's other father and Luke reveals that he is actually Kylo's father. Everyone yells "Noooo" and the ghosts disappear out of disgust while Luke cuts off Kylo's hand, Snoke cuts off Rey's hand, Leia shoots a hole into the trash compactor and she and Luke get in and make good their escape."

I am at work and everyone looked at me when I couldn't stop laughing.

The only thing missing is more Empire callbacks. They need to go to cloud city and Hoth somehow.

Hey, that Resistance Planet at the end looked A LOT like Hoth (I even mentioned 'Hoth again?" to the friends I was with when they did the first outside shot of the Resistance) - so much so, that's probably WHY they had the one Resistance fighter suddenly kicking up the red 'salt' as he walked (which we first thought was t\he guy bleeding all over the place due to some wound.)

How much do you think Disney paid them??? ;-)

In the midst of all the 'butthurt' over this movie, SlashFilm has published the most succinct analysis and rebuttal of said 'butthurt' I've seen, and that I think needs to be shared with the sane parts of the fandom:

Yeah there is a lot of butthurt. Im not exactly sure where the line is, where not liking a film turns into butthurt, but some of the reaction has seriously crossed over into that.

that being said, I didn't think the film was particularly good. It was "ok" and honestly, I probably only say "ok" because I like Star Wars and may give some of the elements a pass.

If this film was more aptly titled "Space Wizards Ruin The Universe.... Again" I'd probably be more honest and give the film a "D"

Why is it "butthurt" to shine a light on the obvious story-telling shortcomings in TLJ? I'm, btw, not talking about people not getting to see what they expected to see. The problems this movie has would also be problems in any other movie. You just hear more people talk about them loudly because it is Star Wars, and scifi-fans are very vocal in their criticisms.

It's butthurt when you say "this is the worst movie of all time". It's butthurt to send death threats to Rian Johnson. It's butthurt to make a botnet that decreases the audience rating of the movie.

It is not butthurt to disagree with the direction a movie (any movie) took, and to explain why you feel that way.

I gave it a C-. The movie is dragged down by it's pointless and unnecessary sub-plot.

Agreed.

So given the "fan" reaction and the return of JJ Abrams, I have very serious concerns that a lot of what the Last Jedi has done will be undone. Will Kylo Renn's action be later shown to have been the result of manipulation by a shadowy sith lord, who gets killed in the final scene of Episode 9? Will Luke return as a force ghost to give Rey formal Jedi training? Will Phasma turn out to be Rey's mother? I sure hope not. The new Lucasfilm made a decision to make a left turn with Last Jedi. I hope they stick to the new path, even if its a bumpy road.

I agree with Satron here.

The whole Poe-fiasco could have been avoided with Leia and Dern's character explaining herself (or the previously mentionned suspicion of a traitor on board raised). One sentence. Rey was awfully underused until she lifts all those stones... she just vanishes from Snoke's ship to reappear on the Falcon (of course implied that Chewie waited around and picked up Snoke's escape pod etc.)

And I'm not talking about Luke's death, the lack of a sword fight between him and Kylo (personally thought the fight was pretty awesome, reflecting Luke's changed attitude in buying time over actually attacking Kylo - and him reusing Obi-Wan's words from ANH), Leia's passive attitude (expected her to either stay on the main ship or stay on the planet to confront Ben herself... a face-face scene which we're now deprived of).

This movie has quite a few plot- and pacing issues, regardless of expectation or franchises attached to it.

The movie is dragged down by it's pointless and unnecessary sub-plot.

which one?

The story of "Rose" and her humble and angry beginnings that we don't need nor care about?
The arms dealers on planet Las Vegas?
the power struggle between admiral Rubber Face and Poe?
