The man is 80, not sure where he is at health wise or if he could handle a movie role.

The rebels have no friends at the moment.

An old one might be appreciated in the next movie...

Wait. A big chunk of this movie is set on a casino world, and he couldn't figure out how to include a notorious gambler?

That occurred to me too but I suppose he just didn’t want a gratuitous cameo for the sake of it. Plus the people on that planet mostly seemed to be the rich decadent type - arms dealers etc. Had he included Lando there, people would doubtless have complained about his inclusion among such amoral company.

Yeah, was expecting a cameo from him at the casino at least, gambler (as well as arms dealer somewhat in the old EU), he'd have fit in nicely. Or instead of Moz, he could have been the contact that helps the resistance hook up with a slicer at the casino. Could have been an 'Old Spock phonecall' type scene, wheelchair wouldn't have been a factor. Instead we got whatever the hell was going on with Moz, meh.

What is it with this obsession people have with Lando?

Yes, he's an iconic and memorable character, but that doesn't mean there's some requirement that he be referenced or seen in the Sequel Trilogy.

I do, too. It doesn't mean I'm obsessing over him being in the ST, though.

Who's obsessed? Poor assumption to paint anyone asking as obsessed just because you disagree.

At the very least, it would be several degrees of obsession less than the cult around Boba Fett, who got a crazy amount of attention for 3 minutes of screen time (prior to AoTC)

Just figured since they've pulled just about every OT character back in for at least something, he was the 'best of what's left' as far as missing characters go. Casino/arms dealers grouping seemed a good way to ease a small role in if they intended to do so.

Gosh, I didn't realize starting a thread to speculate about the possibility of a well-loved character returning would be considered obsession.

He should have been on Canto Bight, or one of the mysterious "allies in the Outer Rim."

If he wasn't in this film, he isn't showing up.

If we assume that Lando went legit following his time in the Rebel Alliance, than he's likely running Bespin still.

If not, he's an old con man out there someplace.

They could CGI him back like Princess Leia in RO with BDW just being the voice of Lando.

Maybe after ROTJ Lando cashed in on his celebrity status as the guy that helped destroy the second Death Star and retired. Guess we could also ask where is Wedge, not a big character, but known enough to warrant a return.

Denis Lawson was actually asked to return for The Force Awakens but he turned it down because he thought it would bore him.

I also like to think that Lando went back to running Bespin, and perhaps a number of other gas mining planets, under some kind of corporate governing structure.

Well they haven't show ANY of the allies they contacted... So 9 would be a perfect place to return. And even if it is JUST a brief communication it would be a morale booster for both the characters and the audience
It would just be a cameo like his other appearances really were. It would hugely boost his con and media appearances

I really don't think Denis Lawson holds Star Wars in much esteem. I remember an interview he did, where the interviewer tried to work Star Wars into the conversation and Lawson went off "You want to talk about my Star Wars experience? I spent endless hours in a cardboard box talking to myself. That's my Star Wars experience."
