Oh, I'm not talking about details or anything, just "Hey, we're working on it, and books will be back by end of 2018 or early 2019" or something along those lines.
Of course I understand they don't have to say anything, I just think it would be nice if they were willing to acknowledge that their fans might be concerned.

This is slightly off-topic but is there a definitive list as to what titles are not available as ebooks?

It's never wise to say you can do something when you can't guarantee that it will happen.

No, you said that you understood the concept of confidentiality, you clearly don't. But yes, it would be nice if they gave a statement of some kind, but they're under no obligation to do so.

I do understand the concept of confidentiality, and since we've heard about the negotiations obviously their existence is not confidential. Like I said before I'm not really asking for much more than what we already got, just some kind of an acknowledgment from the editors or someone at S&S that they are aware of the fans concerns. I'm not saying they are obligated to do it, all I'm saying is I think it would be nice if they did.

Because this is the internet, pretty soon "Hey, we're working on it, and books will be back by end of 2018 or early 2019" gets picked up by one person, and then reported by a fan site, and then in not much time at all becomes "Trek Books promised for Autumn 2018"

People will jump on and pick apart literally anything, so until you're ready to give them everything, it's best to give them absolutely nothing.

    Clearly you do not:

And yes, the the knowledge that these negotiations are happening is clearly not confidential, but the actual contents of the negotiations are, hence no-one knows anything for sure and going around in circles for months now.

Exactly, don't ever give a customer a definitive date for something if you're unsure if you can guarantee it, given that @JD works in retail, he would be aware of that.

Yes, I do. I'm not really asking for any more details than what we already have.

I'm not asking for the contents of the negotiations.

I'm not asking for a definitive date, just general window.

It's still something they can't guarentee, and so will only make them appear worse off if they fail to meet that even approximate date.

I guess. I know most of that kind of stuff is never a guartentee, and I tend to forget that a lot of people don't and get really pissed if it doesn't happen.

If you say so because it doesn't look like it from here that you are understanding.

As far as I am aware, most if not all the Pocket Trek books have been released as ebooks, with the exception of “Mission To Horatius” and the majority of the 90’s Young Adults books. (From a quick search on Amazon I could find “Worf’s First Adventure” and “Star Ghost” as ebooks, and the German-translation of the Alexander Day Of Honor story, but I couldn’t find any of the others.)

Also it doesn’t appear as if any of the Bantam TOS or Del Ray TAS have received ebook releases.

There are some weird ones, too - this may have changed, I haven't checked in a while, but at some point Shatner's first three books weren't available, as well as some of the numbered Voyager novels.

Yeah, the first three Shatner books are still not available as e-books, which is strange because all the rest of them are.

Wasn't the problem that they didn't have the right file format for conversion to eBook or something like that?

Weren’t some of the older ebooks released in a format that has become incompatible with the newer apps?

Could be, but I've been doing e-books since the original black and white e-book only Nook and I've never seen them.

I got about half the Strange New Worlds series in an e-reader format that ceased to exist some years later. I got an e-mail from the soon-to-be-defunct e-publisher offering to convert them for free for a limited time, and I kept meaning to get around to it, but as is so often the case with me, I lost track of time and missed my chance. I've bought used print copies of a couple of them since, but for the nonce, the only way I can reread the others is by starting up my laptop before the one before my current one.

eReader format can be converted with Calibre as long as the eBook has no DRM. eReader format is able to be stripped, but you need the key for that.

There is a severe lack of Aventine stories next year. There’s actually a severe lack of all the series. Only Voyager and Prometheus it seems.
