2018 Releases

That's not entirely true; we know approximately why. Contract negotiations have stretched out longer than expected and books can't be commissioned until the negotiations are complete. We just don't exactly know what, if any, sticking points there are, or if this is just a bureaucratic delay.

we know approximately why.

How is that any different from this:

No one here knows exactly why

Because from where I am sitting, they mean the same thing.

The bottom line is though, we can guess, we can assume and we can infur what the issue could be, but until there is an official release on the matter, that's all what can be done.

I think if someone were arriving in this thread not knowing anything about the situation, "No one here knows exactly why" is a much less helpful response than the one I gave, but argue semantics if you like.

It seems you're the one arguing semantics. Yes, you built on what I said, but that line I quoted of yours is no different from what I said.

We do some, and if someone is not at all aware of what's going on then we can at least share we do know.

I think I know what you're saying and at no-point have I said nothing is known, but at the moment, no actual meaningful information is known.

I will point out, that this thread is now 628 posts (with this post) and literally no-one has been able to say anything official on the matter of the books next year and beyond (although Ward and Bennett have given the information they could in a semi-offical capacity) and all we can do, is guess, assume and infur what the issue could be because no-one here knows what the fuck the actual problem is and those discussions are throughout this thread, like this post:

Legal contracts can take a while, especially when new shareholders of the contract are introduced (as it seems to be) and the very scope of the contract seems to be in question.

Personally I'm looking at not knowing (much, for certain, whatever) as a chance to appreciate what we have. Think about it, the tie in novels have been going for years, and even the relaunch era began back in 2001 with DS9's Avatar which was 16 years ago.

As much as I want it to continue, and am eager to find out how, when, etc, it's still been going on more than twice the longest run of a TV series. And I don't wanna take that for granted.

Apart from that license renewal is being negotiated absolutely nothing (and I’m not sure that that has actually been announced - just that those ‘in the know’ have said so).

I know and have said as much several times.

The thing that I find the most annoying about the whole thing is the fact that nobody at S&S will make any kind of official statement. I understand the details of a deal like are probably confidential, but you'd still think one of the editors or someobody could make an official statement to the StarTrek.com or one of the fan sites like Trek Core and just reasure us that things are moving forward and maybe give us some kind of window for when we can expect new books. Trek Core even contacted S&S for a story they just did on the lack of new books, and they wouldn't speak to them.

The contract negotiations are probably confidential. I doubt that anyone st S&S can say anything.

You obviously have no understanding of what confidential means then do you. Yes it would be nice to know what is going on, the powers that be are under no obligation to inform the likes of us or Trek Core. They're a private business after all.
