What would a 24th Century ship look like on Discovery

Trekboy1993

Let's look back at the long lost USS Defiant (Constitution Class) in the Enterprise 2 parter "In a mirror darkly". With updated visuals that ship looked more advanced than the NX-class (which it was). So with USS Discovery looking more advanced than any ship we have seen before what could a ship from the 24th Century TNG,DS9, VOY look like. Like if they found the USS Hera (Which I still think is MIA) what would a Nebula class ship over a century more advanced look like compared to Discovery.

It would look like a 24th century ship.

The Discovery looks fine for the 23rd century. It looks like TOS Movie ship, minus the nacelles.

And the Discovery is more advanced then the Connie because it is newer, the connie at this point in the timeline is 10'ish years older then the Discovery.

But visually how would a ship from the 24th Century look like visually in 2017-18 compared to when it was alst shown in the 80s-90s

^ Agreed. The only difference I bet is that the scaling of the model would probably look different in CG and the Galaxy class would look a lot 'bigger' in the sense that you'd be able to make out a lot more of the smallerdetails. A lot of shots from TNG, although still quite beautiful for the time, do make the ship look like a smaller studio model. If anything, I'd say scaling down the windows on the Galaxy class would benefit it a lot, if they had to change anything. The design still looks plenty advanced to me.

The big studio model they had (8 feet I think?) IMO looks fine in TNG-HD. Feels large. Held up in First Contact as well.

The Enterprise-D looks beyond obsolete to me Defiant (DS9) and Voyager still stand the test of time not to mention t Voyagers bridge is by far the best bridge in Star Trek IMHO even better than the Sovereign class.

Dark, grainy and cheap and it would only be visible on screen in shots no longer than five seconds in length, damn lucky if they're even that long.

That's hard to design. A star fleet ship 100 years later then the Discovery ship? Hard to think about. 100 years is a long time for new tech discovered by the federation to perfect and incorporate into their ships. Imagine all the tech Kirk came upon that was reverse engineered..ever wonder about that? Did Kirk's explorations net new tech that was integrated into Picard's era? I would love to see a book that takes the tech Kirk came upon and related how star fleet incorporated that into their future ships.

LCARS would be a fully holographic interface and the control panels are just projectors for them.

The chairs would all collapse behind plates in the floor when not in use and may or may not actually float above the deck.

Turbolifts are actually mini transporter stations.

Comm badges are actually tricorder/computer/sensor combinations that also double as bodycams; you interact with them by a hologram projected in front of you that looks exactly like a 24th century PADD.

Uniforms turn into space suits when you push a button on the collar.

Beehive-barrier deflector shields. Also, personal shields for the crew.

As for overall appearances, I would expect to see some of the more exotic designs from STO:

Although it would be nice to see something like the Luna class (USS Titan) on the small screen.

They will be without sausers or nacells. They might be sentient as well. Maybe something like Moya from "Farscape."

I'm pretty confident that the Enterprise-D would look fantastic with a modern CG model that you could zoom in to actual windows the way they do in Discovery. Don't get me wrong, the 8ft model was gorgeous and a lot of the beauty shots in Generations were...well...beautiful. But using a modern CG camera on a scale CG model (hell, or even like a 20 ft CG model) with all the close up hull details and crisp edges... the Enterprise-D would look massive!
