Yeah, I think the timecops have run their course.
Well, I'm not saying the timecops have to be the focus, let the enterprise J crew do the majority of the deep explorations and such. But at some point, the sphere builder wars should come into play and done like the Borg battle at Wolf 359.

Honestly, they should have made STD from the Kelvin timeline..the Romulan ship Kirk's father encountered would be a great example of how STD tech looks the way it does after that battle. It fits so perfectly, and explains the change from TOS tech to the new Tech in STD as being the temporal emergence of that Romulan ship. Which could explain all the new STD sciences.

I don't think so. Time Travel has become very overdone.
You're opinion. But tell that to Doctor who fans, and we'll respond with, time travel is never over done. Star trek with Enterprise J is my favorite fantasy series I'd love to see. Especially with a Soon type Android as it's captain along with all the baggage that brings. Proving an A.I. can command a Starship, would be more impressive an alagory then the female named Michael could ever be.

To me, the Enterprise J is a dark mysterious city ship, part organic, part mechanical. I don't think it would be like any Starship we're familiar with.

I don't think an AI android would command the ship, the ship itself would be an "AI"

Star Trek isn't Doctor Who, though. Just because it works in one franchise doesn't mean another franchise should utilize it. Would Star Trek benefit from having space wizards like Star Wars? Or perhaps more of a police procedural? Or, maybe more BSG?

I enjoy Doctor Who quite a bit, but I don't think it needs to be Star Trek.

Discovery proves that so long as it is good, people will tune in and even pay extra to support its continuance. I hope Discovery's success means I have exciting new Star Trek for the rest of my natural life - and beyoooooooond.

I was a little disappointed --as much as I like what Discovery has ended up becoming-- that they didn't go with Fuller's original anthology idea.

IIRC they said (paraphrased) Lets start with Discovery and see how it goes. Given Discovery's success so far I think it's fair to say the original idea can be moved back to the stove eventually.

Of course the potential stumbling block to continuing with Fullers plan beyond Discovery is, how much damage did the breakup between he and CBS do, can they reconcile? If they cannot then I wonder just how much of his plan did they already pay for the rights to?

That can be all sort of awesome. The ship itself being a decorated Starfleet officer. It would throw the chain of command into chaos, make personal privacy aboard the ship an adventure, and turn out really interesting should Jay commit a mutiny or decide she wants to have a walk around contrary to her crew's wishes. In historical perspective, the In a Measure of a Man decision would be viewed as unjust and intolerant against holograms and ship computers, perhaps starting from The Doctor. It's fascinating that the Enterprise D computer was able to create a sentient self-aware soul (Moriarty) after simply being asked to, implying she's more than that.

I find the Discovery crew very interesting. They are more flawed than the allegedly pitch perfect Enterprise D crew, having committed questionable acts left and right, yet weirdly I have more confidence in them that they – and Burnham in particular – would find it easier to recognise such intelligence. Perhaps because they don't feel as arrogant in their ‘perfectness’, and would be more willing to challenge their own notions.

Should they have an accidental time travel accident to the distant future, bumping into a ship with such status would be very interesting. I'd watch that.

Not really different from whatever the hell happened at the end of Into the Forest I Go. Arguably, the spore drive can jump time as easily as universes. And Lorca can easily be from the future, or medieval past, as he can be from the Mirror Universe. It's the same construct.

Since I like to be surprised – and since an early fan speculation involved them getting stuck in the distant past – I'm not overly fond of them ending in the Mirror Universe. That's somewhat more exciting for them than time travel, but it would lead to a totally predictable plot – meet mirror Discovery, meet mirror Earth, meet mirror Lorca (who is actually the original Lorca), mirror Burnham, ad nauseum. The one thing that I would not expect is for them to suddenly be hailed by a Starfleet starship herself. VOY: Message in a Bottle on steroids, USS Prometheus without the EMHs aboard.)

...even if we include the first two episodes which in my opinion had issues but at least I cant say it was boring.

That's my biggest problem with the show, it is just insanely dull. There's no life to it, and it all feels so very contrived. Nothing about the storytelling feels natural or inspired.

I have found this series to be better than most of the others in that respect, I haven't once skipped ahead on any episode except the first two and that was only due to the constant Klingon Monologue.

I did a lot of skipping with Voyagers first season and Enterprises.

The characters in Discovery aren't as one dimensional as they were in those other shows, Lorca especially stands out, plus the Admiral with benefits.

There is no black/white mentality in this show which quite frankly makes it far more relatable and believable than the past shows, I love how each of the characters has a question mark over their intentions and that their actions could be viewed in more than one way.

Liking the design of the Discovery also helps a lot.

Difference there is Doctor Who is built around and dependent upon time-travel, Star Trek isn't. Plus Discovery (*sigh* spoiler alert *sigh*) has already had it's time-travel episode with Harry Mudd, no more is necessary for the rest of the series.

I think they've put in enough complications not to make it dull, but that in turn has led to underdeveloped subplots and characters saying or doing one thing in one scene and then the opposite in the following episode, and sometimes the next scene! Clunky dialogue, plot holes, weird behavior (e.g., "shoot something"), etc., aren't helping.

Thankfully.

"But ya see... if they go back in time to before they time-traveled in the first place, then there's no time travel!"
