Let's talk about the elephant in the room, this series violates Roddenberry's vision big time

It could still be considered highly inappropriate, regardless of personal status, if these people are supposed to be professionals in their fields.

The larger point is that DISCO will not become "more Star Trek" because Bridge Officers start teasing each other.
I'm waiting for the scene where Saru recommends caution and a senior officer calls him a skull headed inhuman coward. In an affectionate way, of course. That would certainly make it more Star Trek.

I remember watching Day of the Dove about fifteen years ago. McCoy mutters "We all know what a KLINGON is." This was meant to telegraph to the audience that something was wrong. Because most other weeks his blanket statements based on race were limited to Spock? (Scotty calling Spock a "freak" on the other hand was wildly out of character. Scotty only discriminates on sex and choice of alcohol.)

Warp Three was broken in 2145, not 2144:

2147 is speculative, as it could just as easily be later in 2145, or 2146, or 2148, or 2149, or early 2150, for all we know. 2147 is a perfectly reasonable guess, though, as good as any. :)

(Now back to Gene's Vision™?)

Thanks for being tolerant of my 2147 launch date, but just so you know the NX-Delta broke Warp 3 in 2144. Archer tells T'Pol that Duval made history in the Delta a year after he and A.G. Robinson broke 2.5 in the Beta and the data recorded on that flight had been properly analyzed. The flashback sequences of the episode take place in 2143.

I know, I know. One year's difference but we're Trek fans. I can't live with myself if I didn't nitpick the crap out of something and walk away smirking like a smug Romulan asshole. ;)

No. Duvall did it "eight months after" the Vulcans made them run simulations for "over a year" following that. Again, feel free to check my math for yourself:
ARCHER: We managed to avoid a court martial, but they grounded us for three months.
T'POL: Still, the NX program continued.
ARCHER: Eventually. The Vulcans had us run every simulation they could think of for over a year before they finally admitted the engine would probably work. Eight months after that, Duvall broke Warp Three in the NX-Delta. Five years later we laid the keel for Enterprise. You know the rest.

In "Unexpected" (ENT), which is mid-2151, somewhere between early May ("Fight or Flight" [ENT]) and late July ("Civilization" [ENT]), Archer mentions that he has known Tucker—to whom we see him introduced in "First Flight" (ENT)—"for eight years," placing the latter sometime in 2143. Following Robinson and Archer's unauthorized flight in the NX-Beta, they were "grounded for three months," and the Vulcans made them run simulations "for over a year" before the project continued. It was "eight months after that" when Duvall broke Warp Three. Depending on whether the three months of Archer and Robinson's grounding and the twelve-plus months of simulations ran concurrently or consecutively (which isn't clear), it's more than twenty months, or perhaps even more than twenty-three, before Duvall's flight. That places it in 2145. It's "five years later" that NX-01's keel was laid.

2143: Warp 2 barrier broken by Robinson
2145: Warp 3 barrier broken by Duvall ("over a year" plus 8-11 months after the above)
2150: NX-01 keel laid ("5 years" after Duvall's flight)

So, Franklin hails from sometime between 2145 (before which Warp Three was the absolute limit for Earth ships) and 2151 (when NX-01 was finally completed, and thus capable of reaching Warp Four and beyond). Again, that's if following the same timeline as ENT, which we can't say for certain is necessarily the case.

Just finished watching the remaining episodes. I think there is plenty of Gene's vision in there. Interesting that right after my earlier posts, I watched an episode featuring weaponised transporters. The pattern simulators plugged a nice and long-standing plot hole as well. Thumbs up.

I guess for all we know, the Franklin could be a hundred years old, and they just dropped a warp 4 engine into it.

Why are so many people acting like they had a revelation with new series? Something like - this is all we waited all out lives, old series suck, this new modern trek is all we need right now. Screw Kirk, Spock, McCoy, Picard, Riker, Sisko, Archer, both Jadzias, Janeway, Neelix, Dukat, Weyoun and 1000 more Vortas, Discovery rules.

Yes, because clearly this is a competition...

Speaking only for myself, because... this is the series I have been waiting on, not necessarily all my life, but at least since the announcement of Enterprise?

It's how some people may feel, just the way it goes :) NOW I don't, lol. Which is just the way I feel. I have genuine liking and respect for much of past Trek, and preference for it actually. Discovery is trying to make its mark and sometimes comparisons are made, a lot of times.

I'm not saying screw the old stuff.

I just happen to think, with the exception of TOS (and even that's a close call) that DSC's first 9 episodes are better than any other series first 9.

I think it's a little myopic to be so sensitive that your interpretation is that those who find DSC to be superior must also be saying "screw the old stuff."

I like the old stuff a lot.

I just think DSC is better relatively than most of the other stuff at this phase of its lifecycle. "Better" doesn't mean the other stuff is worthless. We're not dealing in absolutes here. Liking DSC, even though it's different, isn't some show of disloyalty.

I think there's a few people who could stand to learn that fact to be honest.

Don't mince words. Tell us how you REALLY feel.
