Star Trek Continues - To Boldly Go (Parts I & II)

Another thought occurred to me. Instead of leading straight into TMP, it might have been better if the ship flew through some sort of space anomaly that turned the ship and crew into cartoon characters. This could then lead into the animated series.

I really liked the Star Trek Continues finale To Boldly go .It was really good. The cast did a amazing job with these 2 episodes . I'm going to miss the further adventures of the Enterprise crew.Bravo for a fantastic series. I'm going ti rewatch the episodes again.

Where was this idea a year ago???? Best idea I have heard!!!! lol

Any criticisms I might express would make it look like I am downplaying the accomplishments of Vic and the STC crew. I enjoyed the series and deeply admire their ability to learn, improve and make a good product. What they have accomplished is simply amazing.

Part two was pretty on point and I enjoyed it UNTIL Mckenna got stuck in the transporter beam for a flipping two and a half minutes. Not only that but she's fully aware and able to speak. Granted, it's not too dissimilar to the scene in TMP, but it completely took my out of the story and I was eventually thinking, "just kill her already." They should have had the "forgive yourself," exchange before the transporter accident somehow, and then made it a quick death in the transporter room. Have her held there in the beam for a couple seconds. "Oh, no. Her pattern is degrading." Then gone.

The part where Kirk walks past all the models in the office was cringe worthy. My thoughts through that scene:
Oh, the Phoenix. Cool.
Ugggh, an NX-01.
A Kelvin. That's stupid.
The Discovery! What kind of Bullshit is this?!
A constitution class.
A constitution class...refit? Is this a model of a concept that head ready just for when Kirk's ship was the only one to come back? Then Kirk gives it this knowing look. What?

Also the whole arrow head exchange was dumb. It doesn't need an explanation.

The setup of the whole crew assembled looked pretty bad. Maybe if they were in a smaller room with everyone standing like in TMP it would have been better. And then calling attention to the fact the Kirk is wearing a different uniform.

As I said the rest of the episode was great but the ending just sucked. I got so excited when I realized that they were going to do a saucer separation. And the CGI of the ships was phenomenal. It looked classic, yet updated just enough to look amazing!

A proper TOS ending would have gone out on a high note. This was nothing but a downer.

The finale was a downer. Kirk is somber, nearly depressed in his final speech. It doesn't feel as if he's inspiring his crew but rather that he's lamenting his recent promotion.

I always felt that any finale to TOS should be a story that challenges the resolve of Kirk, Spock and McCoy, especially our stalwart captain. A story that is personal and challenges their friendship.

In a lot of ways, STAR TREK BEYOND feels like a fitting finale to the original series. Three years in and the five-year mission has taken a toll on Kirk but through the events of the movie, he is reinvigorated. I'd want something similar in a TOS "series finale" if there ever was one.

Forget all the connect-the-canon stuff. I'd have the Enterprise sail into the sunset as the final shot. Yes, their five-year mission is over. Yes, they've been ordered to return home. But Kirk with a glee in his eyes after this final adventure looks to the viewscreen and says, "We'll go home but we'll take the long way around." Hinting that the Enterprise and her crew have a few more adventures before they finally stand down... you know, second star to the right and all that stuff.

Or I'd chuck all that and do @Indysolo's idea. :)

I just saw Part II and I couldn't help but get misty eyed. Great story, great dovetail into the films, and just thank you to everyone on the STC cast and crew who made this wonderful series happen. ♥

And the entire universe.

A winning idea! Doesn't somebody accidentally get an extra arm, though (or a wrongly colored one)? I don't mean Arex - isn't there a frame or two with (I think) Scotty and that sort of weirdness?

I wish they had found a way for McKenna to do something in this episode besides sit in a brig and get caught in a transporter beam.

It would have been visually satisfying not to have the Enterprise reconnect and have it return to Earth in pieces. What a great way to show the hardships of the five year mission. Instead we're told it will be difficult to reconnect the two sections and then it happens offscreen.

I'm impressed they got so many episodes done on a somewhat regular schedule. They were polished looking and sounding productions. I can't say I was a fan, but I admire the passion they had for this.

Thats a pretty good point, and could have led into the refit (to make it easier to reconnect in the future) and could have been a pretty cool shot of the repairs underway, with the ship parted out in pieces.

No one is saying the behind the scenes people shouldn't get a moment in on screen, but as there aren't 400 of them, and the ones who are there are digitally copied to fill out the crowd, that argument doesn't wash.

I well know the realities of all-volunteer low-budget productions, so that argument doesn't wash, either.

Simply put: they chose not to make the effort, and I choose to not like it. YMMV.

Suggesting that a normally behind the scenes crew needs to apologize for their demographic makeup or somehow alter it when they are given a cameo (let's all imagine that casting call) is about the dumbest thing I've read on this site. But then again on another BBS I recently saw STC being taken to task for casting an "Asian" Spock.

I enjoyed the episode(s), but admit that it shares the same faults as STNV... attempting to bridge TOS to TMP (and the other movies). I think that is a handicap of using the original characters, but could still be avoided. Subtle nods to later stories would be preferable to overtly linking to them.

That in no way diminishes the accomplishment here... these 11 episodes fit nicely with TOS, and even better than some third season TOS episodes.

Thanks to everyone involved!
