Is Discovery your new favorite Star Trek series?

I would prefer shows not tend end either.

I think that they have to work within their parameters and that this limit might be a good thing storywise.
Yeah I don't know but if you are interested in something then you want to keep that experience going, right? Having a shortened season, then resting it half way through... finishing it off and then having an even longer break in between each full season is not ideal.

I would rather things continue forever, but that is not the way of things. To hold on something past its time is the way of pain-the Jedi do not walk it :vulcan:

I personally am adapting to the new format, because it gives me a chance to enjoy a full season in a little less time, and appreciate other shows as well, like Marvel's Netflix series and the like.

Honestly I've ONLY started to watch Agents of Shield and am enjoying it a lot. Part of that is the programming though. It plays two episodes a day Mon-Fri. Even more so when I watched LOST I saw the entire second season in one binge watch. (Which kind helped with LOST).

I binged Marvel's Daredevil Season 1 and had few regrets. Season 2 was more annoying.

The point is, there is plenty of time for other programming, which is more than I can say for a lot of other shows that I wanted to watch when I was younger.

1. DS9
2. DIS
3. TNG
4. TOS (need to watch more of it, so it may end up going higher)
5. Enterprise (Parts of season 3 and most of season 4 were good)
6. VOY (used to be number one many, many years ago, but Season 6 and 7 ruined it for me. I'll never forgive them for Endgame what a pile of shit that episode was)

Be patient with TOS. Remember it is a product of it's time and try to view and appreciate it in that context. I think you will find it a great experience if you can do that.

It's certainly is a different landscape. This is the first Star Trek that has been taken away from what we call here 'free TV'. Shortened seasons, different competition. Can't watch it casually. There are probably people who will never view it that in the past would've.

Probably not, but we can't have VHS recordings forever ;)

Not my favourite, not by a long way. It's getting better but that's about as much praise as I can muster for it at present.

I'd also disagree with the OP when they mentioned engaging character we are starting to care about. The only character I am even remotely interested in is Lorca, and that's only because he is such a bastard.

The rest, including Burnham, could be killed off next episode for all I care.

I know it's still very early days but we haven't really gotten to know, or care about, any of the characters.

I'm stuck like a barnacle on the Trek I grew up with. I don't think this series will wrench me from that. In my mind it just stands apart from the rest of Trek.

But that's not to say I'm not enjoying it. The best thing going for it is Lorca, what annoys me is this spore drive business, lol. But overall I'm happy with it. And I'm seemingly one of the few that likes how the Klingons are portrayed in this.

I think at this juncture it's good to track its development. I wonder why people who like it watch? Perhaps it's a personal choice?

I don't know what is there to enjoy in STD, other than its visuals. I'm in disbelief that some claim that it's their favorite StarTrek, I'm almost inclined to think that they're trolling. After so many dry years we got this low quality trash and many fans think that they're doing the franchise a service by finding something to praise it for. At this point I'm waiting for the next trek in like ten years.

I think we're at a point where the Trek of old is completely gone. It will be like this going forward. Complete with alien titties to make it seem grown up and edgy.

I'm hoping for a fourth Abrams film, but I have a feeling that ship has sailed.

So wait a few years and do the same with DISCO.

People have said the same about every new Trek series since TNG. One man's trash is another man's pot of gold.

Old Trek wouldn't stand a chance in today's market place. It was out of date when they were sticking with it right at the end of the 90s and start of the noughties, and it would be even more out of place now.

The last three movies, and Discovery too, have seen Trek become more suited to the period it is releasing in than I think has been the case for a long time for this franchise. And I'm all for it.

1st and 2nd Gen Trek have their place, and they fill a certain void in my TV viewing whenever I get the urge for something of their ilk, but current day Trek hits all the right spots for me, both at the movies and on the small screen.

I'm really loving Discovery but TOS will forever be my favorite. You never forget your first love. But I do put it up equal with the rest of my favorites, TNG and VOY.

I am just happy that here is a new Trek series....and that they are not going the tired old way of the same old!

The present and the future will always rest on the shoulders of the past, and those shoulders are broad and ground breaking and should be respected for it's relevance and brilliance, without which no other continuation would have been possible. So, old is not bad, it's the beginning, and should be respected.

New isn't always better. Just see New coke, Ghostbusters 2.0, etc..etc..

No but it is the past!
Times are different....and somehow the same!
And the past is what it is!
Not all of it was that very good!

I kind of had this sense of repulsion with the alien titties because it was in a scene laced with horror and violence. I really don't know where they are going with that and if they redeem it so that Tyler is Voq that would be the only way. However for now it was put in the context of Tyler having a grotesque flashback of subjugation and abuse. In that context seeing his abuser enjoy herself is disgusting, I wouldn't like it if it were the other way around, So Discovery can stick their gratuitous titty scene.
