This is my ultimate dream game..

If I could have my wish would be a game set in the world which would have recreations of different cities, and you could then go to those cities travel the streets of them, explore them, find stuff you have been asked to find and generally have fun. I wouldn't have combat but pure exploration, lots of climbing and parkour on the ground and up on buildings, tunnels, caves and different environments....

You'd have 5 cities to start with and extra cities would be DLC

So what would be your ideal dream game if you could make it?

What would be the appeal there for you? Recreations of cities you know, like, "hey, I know this place"? Or would it be about going places you can't in real life?

Also, contemporary cities or historical cities (á la Assassin's Creed)?

To go to places I haven't been in real life, and to do stuff in those cities you can't do in real life. Sort of like the stuff in Mirror's Edge but on the ground as well as on buildings, but purely exploration based and no combat. There would be missions to find things and stuff, traffic to navigate past. But purely the exploration side of it is what I would really love.

Most of my time in GTA V has been exploring every nook and cranny I could find and just mucking about that way. In Watch Dogs (didn't bother with sequel) I did that too but there were a few buildings you could climb and that's kind of what I like. I'd like modern contemporary cities or recreations of such. So yeah for me the appeal is pure exploration and doing stuff in that virtual recreation I couldn't do in real life.

Off the top of my head, a Zork game done ala Skyrim. They could pretty much fit the stories and quests of the original text adventures into one game. And that would be awesome.

That and Donny Versiga being given official permission, a budget and a team, to develop his classic Enterprise to it's fullest extent, with either some kind of bottle story (invasion or something) to realize the ship as much as possible and an exploration mode with all sorts of things to do around the ship. And VR support since his stuff looks better than the "Bridge Crew" stuff.

If you haven't seen his stuff, hop on over to the Fan Art forum and prepare to be amazed. His shit is the next best thing to being there.

And then for the sequel, a game featuring his movie Enterprise

The map is the entire world, down to every street in every town everywhere. You could set your real-life home as your initial safehouse and cause carnage across the globe!

    in VR!

Multiplayer could end up being a night out - meeting your friends online in a favourite pub without ever leaving the house!

Take the world of "Last of Us" and take it's slow paced multiplayer and merge it into a very detailed open world game like H1Z1. Story based PVE missions + PVP areas and even hybrid zones of PVE missions in PVP zones against humans and AI enemies. Large detailed cities and vast open land inbetween and update it monthly adding more missions and constantly changing the world around you.

Failing that I want a Star Trek styled Mass Effect game with co-op multiplayer.

An open world superhero game in the DC or marvel universe. Kind of like the Arkham games, except you can make your own character with powers. Actually, I guess it would be more like a game with Saint's Row 4's mechanics with more powers, a serious story and bigger world.

A GTA game set in anything other than the same states that we keep getting. I guess I can see why as it's probably easier to do some political commentary. But I miss the variety of the early games like GTA London. I'd like to see a modern GTA set there, or anywhere they haven't already done. Australia maybe? I'd love to see somewhere tropical too. The last several games have all seemed to take place in the same cities. They've done Liberty City at least twice now, as well as San Andreas twice, in the 3D and HD eras. New places, please. I think they could do a great british crime drama game by setting it in 70's London.

Another Frontline Fuels of War game or another Endwar. I loved those two games.

Conceptually, my ideal game has always been something like Battlecruiser 3000 AD or the more recent Star Citizen. In practice, I get bored easily in "fly anywhere, do anything" space games because it turns out the "fly anywhere" will show you thousands of the same basic planet/station, and "do anything" means "shoot enemies/mine metals in different places." Something that could merge that genre with the free roaming but dynamic exploration of a game like Skyrim, and maybe the life sim elements of The Sims, would be pretty wild. If someone could pull it off, I mean.

Honestly, "Skyrim in space with more life sim elements" would probably do it.

That'd be pretty awesome. To take from Skyrim, give your crew some lives. Have them perform their tasks and in general go through their daily lives. Crew could also have shifts, and beyond being merely cosmetic, these crew members would have stats that would present interesting dynamics to shifts changing as you wouldn't always have your top people on duty. And space games need to start offering away-missions.

^I would be up for that. I've always found the modern story in AC just as interesting as the historical aspect, and wouldn't mind at least one game set entirely in the modern day.
I've mentioned it before in similar threads, but I still think a Telltale Star Trek game would be awesome. I think that kind of story and decision driven game would actually be a better fit than the kind of shooter games we usually get. Not I don't know enjoy those kinds of Trek games, the Kelvinverse game and Elite Force games are great.

One thing I never got about the AC games. I only played the first and never finished it due to boredom.

OK the one thing I never got. He goes into the animus and that presents this VR kind of experience, but how does that help them find the artifacts in the real world? Are we just supposed to accept all this and say "it works" how does what the first guy does in the Animus machine help the real world outside it?

I haven't completed all the games, but those I have have the ancestor visit those locations and leave the artefacts there. Desmond or whichever modern person you play remembers the Animus simulation.

What they are seeing in the Animus are real memories, so where they see the artifact in the memories is where it is in the real world, or at least where the historical person last saw it.

Well Desmond was in the machine so I'd assume he does remember everything. The movie changes a lot of this. No bed to lie on. It looks like he's being held by some robot arm thing.

Desmond is only up to AC3; to say more would be spoilers. I don't think the modern day character is names in IV-onwards, except Origins, where it appears to be a Templar woman. I don't know if the movie is considered in-continuity with the games, or if it is its own thing.

The movie I'm not sure about but I do know Ubisoft had creative control over the movie so it could be tied into things.

One thing I learnt which I find funny is that Watch Dogs is supposed to be in the very same universe as the Assassins Creed games.
