USA distribution -CBS All Access discussion

I've already cancelled it. Their service is shit. Quality is subpar and the other trek shows on CBSAA are even worse... Maybe it will be better next year and I'll give it another go, or just wait for blu ray...

I canceled today before I get billed tomorrow. The service was good. I never had any streaming trouble on my Roku over wired internet. I just won't pay to watch commercials. And I won't pay to NOT watch commercials unless they make it free to watch Star Trek with commercials. The wait for the DVDs will be fine. That's how I watch Big Bang Theory - I just wait a year to avoid the incessant commercials even though I could watch for free over the air.

Commercials on broadcast TV have become insane. I'm surprised anyone can follow along with the story with how many interruptions there are over the course of 30-60 minutes!

Why are they making each episode 45 minutes? I remember about one of the producers saying they didn't have to worry about the runtime constraints of broadcast TV. Like, if an episode had to be 57 minutes to work for the story, it would be 57 minutes, or 49 minutes, etc. The episodes are made as if to fit an hour slot on broadcast.

Most hour long shows on broadcast are around 41-42 minutes these days. So even if Discovery episodes were 45, that would be longer than most broadcast shows.

In any case:
Episode 3 was 48:30 mins
Episode 4 was 50 mins
Episodes 5 and 7 were both 47 mins

CBS All Access is the ninth most successful streaming service in the U.S., according to Parks Associates.

Some other interesting data came from the study according to Parks Associates One-third of U.S. broadband households subscribe to multiple OTT services. More than 200 OTT video services are available in the U.S. today.

The top three are Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Hulu. No surprise there.

I think cancelling subscription might actually be good for Trek. The drop in numbers will show CBS execs how important new Star Trek content is for their business. If we’re lucky maybe it will even lead to a 2nd new Trek series so that CBSAA can have Trekkie subscribers throughout the year.
