Yellow. Braces. *shudder*
I like the rest well enough, I suppose. I don't mind the Wesley Crusher-striped shirt; the pants look like something a little boy would wear. Maybe it's The Doctor getting back to her more child-like self.

The following is a drawing supposedly by the productions' costume designer. (I say "supposedly" because this is not the drawing's original URL. If it were on the BBC website or some other spot that could be more readily identified as "official", I would doubt it less.

Regardless, it depicts all the elements present in the publicity photo and Whittaker's physique has not been given impossible comic book heroine proportions. Point being, while in motion, rather than standing "ramrod" stiff as in the photo, this ensemble will likely look even more intriguing.

Yup. Like the Doctor's outfit, it's definitely got a looked-that-way-in-the-80s-with-a-modern-twist about it.

Tbh if they put question marks somewhere on her costume it wouldn't look at all out of place, and might actually make her look more Doctory. Definitely a throwback to the 80s the more of think of it. The concept art shown above makes her look even more that way.
Ditto. I was worried they would go all Americanized and oversex a style.
Her outfit has a connection to the icon of the Doctor (the overcoat or cape) while presenting something new.
It's a bit beige, but so was Davison's outfit.
I like the costume myself, it has a bit of a "grabbed in a charity-shop" vibe which let's face it is probably how The Doctor usually dresses by grabbing stuff off the pegs in the wardrobe. It also manages to bridge both worlds - being feminine without girly, and not a woman trying to dress as a bloke, along with some call-backs to earlier Doctors. The braces are Troughton or Smith, the shirt colour reminiscent of Tom Baker's scarf, and as for the shorter trousers - that was the style Ace wore, though not the type.
She's gonna need some leg warmers and a scarf for Christmas specials (or icy planets).
Otherwise, I dig it.

I never liked the question marks on the JNT-era Doctor costumes. Too cutesy and self-conscious. They came along at a point where all the mysteries of the Doctor had pretty much already been solved, so it felt like an attempt to replace them with a superficial reference to the idea of mystery. And they really got out of hand by the McCoy era.

It works better as a comic strip costume... I don't mind the culottes or boots, and the coat could be good, depending on how it moves, so really... it's Mork's t-shirt and braces that are the crap thing.
I love it. She's to the Fourth what Capaldi's outfit was to Three... its odd, but these correlation keep occurring.
Agreed. I don't like it but it didn't make any of the mistakes that I was expecting it to. I like the pants and the suspenders. The coat is decent. But the top has got to go. The neckline is too wide and I hate the stripes.
What's weird is that it's far less stylish than most Doctors but isn't really going for full on pantomime the way that Colin Baker & Sylvester McCoy did. I feel like I would be more forgiving if there were some question marks somewhere in there, maybe along the suspenders.
If it's just on one ear, maybe she's Bajoran.
What fashionable girls are you seeing walking around?
It does remind me of something a kids TV host would wear in the 1970s/80s. So it's retro but in a way that mimics one of the bad fashions of the era. Still, it's better than frizzy hair & pastels.
