Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2's Star Trek Beyond homage.

It amazes me that the JJTrek movies are reviled by some fans, but the GotG movies receive high praise. I recently watched both GotG movies, and find them to be nearly identical to the JJTrek movies in terms of structure, quality, action and fun.

Funny enough, I was watching Vol. 2 with the wife on Sunday night and remarked several times that the film felt similar to Beyond.

But one had "Star Trek" attached to it, the other "Marvel". It is a tough road if you aren't attached to the "it" brand of the moment.

I've noticed the similarities too since the first film in 2014. Particularly with Peter Quill, who's extremely reminiscent of nuKirk from the first two nuTrek films. The thing is, I actually buy Quill as a rogue, whereas I could not buy Orci/Kurtzman's nuKirk as as a Starfleet officer.

I didn't notice this at first, but now I see it. I just chocked it up to this kind of effect being the standard look of warp in films now

Star Trek is not supposed to be "fun" you unsophisticated philistine!
We go to Trek films to learn more, to strive for more, to embrace more. The Great Bird opens our minds, and lights our pathways.
WHEN WILL YOU PEOPLE GET IT!?!?!?!?!?!?

I think it's more of a coincidence because somebody thought it would be a cool-looking effect.

It's like how ILM made the exploding ring effect in Star Trek VI: TUC, then a few years later they made all the explosions in the Star Wars special editions look like that too. It wasn't meant as an homage.
