Harcourt Fenton Mudd

i posted my opinion on the topics where my opinion was in the subject of the topic itself.

Like a Firefly-esque show where Mudd and a small crew of outlaws are the main characters. I’d pay to watch that!

Now that you mention it, there was a German novel series* with a recurring crew of wannabe-bandits led by a Mudd-like captain. Their ship got frequently damaged but he was too greedy to have it fully repaired or upgraded each time.

*STERNENFAUST. Google the gorgeous covers.

Erased timeline or not, Mudd committed the crimes. The crew has circumstantial evidence, and multiple witnesses.

One witness - Stamets. Remember, no one else realizes or remembers what happened in any of the previous Loops. Also, the unit on his wrist disintegrated, so zero physical evidence.

Video recordings of the device.
Plus, they are Starfleet officers. Their word should carry the day.

one witness whos been going mad and of course no murders or takeover of the ship were actually committed. since it didnt happen, it didnt happen

by the time Mudd was duped he had committed no murder or takeover of the ship.

At that time the timeline reset and moved on, he was holding several Starfleet officers at gunpoint on their own ship. Surely that's a crime (hostage situation), let alone trespassing / break-and-entering on Starfleet property.

with this i agree but he is more trouble than he is worth. if he is running from stella and daddy then im willing to be that the reason he fears them is because they know what to do with him.

Not the way the law works (or should.); assuming the Federation legal system is simiular to most countries requiring absolute proof of guilt. Stemets' statements would be circumstantial; and the only recording they have in the last loop is Lorca offering Mudd the ship.

But wouldn’t that mean you can walk free if you commit a crime and simply reset the timeline?

Changing the timeline means the chain of events no longer exists. But it doesn’t change the fact that those erased events actually occurred. Like in “Relativity”.

Going mad? to whom? us public or to the crew? or to his captain? U r telling me he has no credibility?
Bah!!!!!
yeah right, a murderer mad man ..Ok.... go to the girls arms.
ahahahaha
Alice in wonderland

Make many episodes like this crap and discovery will suffer the same fate Stargate Universe did

If you reset the timeline, no crime was committed,

at least that's how my brain is thinking it. I guess I don't consider that the events occurred relative to what time and existence means to us puny humans.

Are you joking?

His personality is changing pretty drastically, at the first sign of him suggesting something unusual even the crew thought he was losing it.

Assuming the principles of justice in the future work anything like they do today, and Mudd has some sort of an advocate, then yeah there isn't any actual crime. Just one man who's undergoing an experimental mind altering event, insisting there were a bunch of murders, of a bunch of people, all of whom are truly alive.

Ahah and its me that it is joking? So he is good to run engineer on the ship but not to be a witness.
Stargate universe will be..keep with episodes like this

I have to admit I was a little perturbed by the ease, even glee, with which Mudd casually murdered Lorca, Tyler and other crew members. He was always portrayed as a conman and a scoundrel, and yes he's done questionable things, but a murderer? At first I thought it was because he knew the timeline would reset and the murders would be undone, but he went into each loop not knowing if it would be the last one - meaning any murders he committed had the chance of becoming permanent. That bit doesn't sit well with me. Rainn Wilson's acting is superb though.

As others have said though - although he killed a bunch of people, hijacked the ship etc, the only people with any memory of those events are himself and Stamets, and all of his victims are still very much alive and the ship in Federation hands. So there's nothing to charge him with except a bunch of misdemeanors, and life 'imprisonment' with Stella is clearly a punishment worse than any a Federation prison can give out...

Edge of Tomorrow illustrated this concept very well, but i'd imagine after enough tries i'd have the process memorized.
