Tech that doesn't exist outside of a Time Lord or that weird baby alien from TOS. No one has time loop or Starship computer hacking tech outside of the odd super race that Mudd sure as hell couldn't steal from. I'll be honestly, I didn't watch the show all that closely after Mudd was revealed to have hacked the computer. But unless he stole that tech from a group like the First Federation of the Borg, I'm calling BS.
What? All he needs is the codes from a high ranking engineer; OR some tech that's as high as the device he was using to reset time. Hell ten years or so later - Khan did it after reading a couple tech manuals and using Marla McGivers access.

<-- look at this clip (at 3:23). A reporter asked a writer for star trek about canon and mentions the animated series as a non-canon source. Obviously it's not widely accepted that star trek the animated series is canon. So why pretend?
You, me and that reporter don't determine canon. So how widely accepted it is by people not making Star Trek is irrelevant.

Gene Roddenberry once said that he didn't consider either Star Trek V or VI to be canon. He didn't like either film and considered the events in one or both to be completely apocryphal. Paramount and the fans ignored him.

As they should have.

Well they must, since Mudd stole it from them.
First Federation? What to they have to do with time loops and computer hacking?

Kahn had inside help and was a genius. Mudd is dumb, had no inside help and there is no tech he could steal that would cause time loops and hack a federation computer unless he stole from a super race like the First Federation or the borg. Since they weren't mentioned, its all just bullshit. If it was that easy, the Federation would have fallen to sociopathic conmen decades before STD.

They were just a super advanced race connected to the TOS era that I thought of.

Also, there is no "they must". Its a fictional story and writers being morons isn't an inuniverse justification for bullshit.

and I've seen all your sources and proof that the cartoon is canon. They're not convincing. Whether it's canon or not is open to interpretation. Why do you make points based on questionable canon?

Seriously do you even watch Star Trek? Kirk's Enterprise was hacked by Space Hippies, kids, a robot and Mudd himself once. Cyber security on Starfleet ships is worse than Equifax.

He would have spent one loop cutting fingers and toes off to get pass codes.

This war did not come out of no where.

The Klingons pretended that it came out of nowhere, but they have been preparing to fight every race in the quadrant, which just happened to turn out to be the humans first.

A robot with advanced alien tech, possessed kids, hippies that took advantage of Kirk's shit security (seriously, auxiliary control being so easy to get into is a joke and mostly just a problem with the episodes writing) and advanced androids working for Mudd. All of those counted on super tech better then Starfleets (that wasn't stolen in the same way he supposedly stole it here, even the androids were more working with him), borderline magic or hilariously bad security. Actually starting a time loop and hacking the computer never happened because some con man stole tech that literally no one close to the Federation's tech level could have.

I enjoyed this one, minus the lame party.

Damned cruel sending Mudd back to Stella - who showed steel. You can see echoes of what she (and their relationship) will become.

Not a big fan of the romance.
  • I skipped over the party scene the first time around. Even watching parties on screen makes me nervous.
  • Stella didn't seem that bad. She just doesn't take any shit.
  • The romance seems completely ham-fisted at this point.

Disco on the Disco
No. Please. For the love of god, NO.

Someone should have pulled out a Vulcan harp and started playing Metallica.
YES. "Fade to Black", anyone?

I need more than that. They need to say it. Most sites I visit refer to the animated series as "questionable canon". I wouldn't treat something inbetween canon and non-canon as a fact. Therefore I say since we don't know if it's canon it is not considered canon.
Fascinating. I always thought the policy was only live-action shows and movies were automatically afforded canon status. I could have sworn I saw that very statement on this board, written by one of the Litverse authors (who are obligated to not contradict canon, and thus have to know what is considered canon and what is not.) Maybe I'm not remembering correctly. Maybe they said the TV shows and movies in general, which would mean TAS is canon.

Either way, I have zero interest in TAS.

And "Cause and Effect" was a copy of "Groundhog Day"'s basic plot device.

"Cause and Effect " aired in March of '92; Groundhog Day premiered in February of '93.

They were both ripping off the short film "12:01 PM," itself based upon a short story from the '70s. There was a feature length version of 12:01 that aired on Fox a few months after Groundhog Day, which ironically got slammed as a ripoff. The producers were so annoyed they tried to sue Columbia Pictures for plagiarism, but they dropped the case.

Go to Bajor, hack a shard off the Orb of Time...and there you go. Its been there for a long time already. There are plenty of technologies that can do what Mudd did and we've seen them in TNG, DS9, and VOY. And all of them existed already by the time someone in Starfleet ran into them. Some of them existed locally for centuries and just no one cared enough about it to investigate until someone did. So its not like something like that couldn't be around. Just that the Vulcans don't believe in time travel and thus have blinded the Federation to all the potential that is around them and other species and con men probably have know about and been happily running rings around the Vulcans for centuries because of their believe that time travel is not logical.

So it is possible with the right tech?
Who said it was Federation level tech?

FYI - 'Stayin' Alive' was not from the 'early 2000's BTW - more from the 'Disco' era of the mid-late 1970ies (specifically 1977); and I'm surer using that type of music was an in joke by the production team here which was hilarious (IMO) and went verty well with the 'Disco' crew shirts. Just saying. ;)

Personally I'll take this version of parties over the stuffy concerts and poetry readings from TNG that made it seem set in the 18th century, :ack::rommie:
As I've already mentioned tin this thread, it was N-Trance Remix which came out in 1995 and stayed around for about a decade (and didn't really hit its stride until 98ish.

For the record, this is it here:

I liked 12:01. Martin Landau, Helen Slater and the guy from Weekend at Bernie's in a cleverly executed time travel thriller that felt so much better than just a TV movie shot on a budget. It was better than a lot of theatrical films about the subject and kept me watching until the very end.

Who said it was Federation level tech?

Because anyone with that level of tech would be impossible for him to steal from. he might be able to con a species, but if its not expressley said it doesn't count. Even the stupid androids in one of his TOS episodes were advanced androids he tricked, he didn't steal them. They also couldn't start time loops, and that's the biggest issue. Anyone with that tech he could steal from, and on a point I just thought of if he has that tech why would he use it on some vendetta and not to become rich?
