I'm wondering when they do the Mirror Universe whether all the fans of Discovery will go sour on it and all the critics will .. see the light!
Doubtful, given how well received ENT's Mirror universe episode was, despite the poor reception over all of the series. I mean, it is possible, of course, but it also offers some fun opportunities.

DSC might fail, but I don't think it will be there.

I have a soft spot for Living Witness (Voyager) for those mirror universe like scenes. Bit of a chuckle. Janeway and the gloves, Tuvok with bigger ears, Seven back to full Borg. Good times. Discovery would be taking a risk so soon making a comical parody but you never know.

I'm not a fan of the Mirror Universe episodes of DS9, definitely the weakest part of the series. So i'm not very excited about the mirror universe episodes of Discovery. I might hate them or maybe I'll love them but i'll worry about it when they air. If they were bad it certainly wouldn't make me dislike Discovery.

I really enjoyed Living Witness as well. It was nice to twist the perspective like that. Looking at our crew's actions in a different and more negative way.

I still think it would have been fantastic if it had turned out Discovery had been set in the mirror universe all along.

Deep Space Nine was willing to look more deeply into the ideas that made the Star Trek universe rather than take them at face value. Past Tense, for instance, tried to look at how human societies started to make the turn that led to the Earth culture in the 24th century. There were also at least three episodes that dealt with how economics worked without currency.

TBH, I would HOPE that DSC would do that as well as DS9 did, but I don't see that happening yet. Hope springs eternal, though, as there are other similar elements around.

Which brings up an interesting point: WAS there a specific "jump the shark" moment in Voyager that spelled the beginning of the downward spiral? Certainly within Enterprise SPECIFICALLY the consensus seems to be the "space nazi aliens" cliffhanger at the end of Season 3.

Is it? I thought that Enterprise was generally considered as improving significantly in the fourth season.

I'd regard both Voyager and Enterprise as improving from where they started, with the former peaking towards the middle of its run, and the latter in the last season.

I don't think Voyager or Enterprise had true jump the shark moments, maybe the occasional WTF moment like space nazi or Janeway going to space the Equinox dudes. If anything I feel Enterprise did the opposite with the Xindi attack, heralding the tone and direction for Season 3 with things like Twilight and the trifecta of Azati Prime, Damage and The Forgotten which in turn brought about the changes for Season 4.

Redemption, life during wartime, professionalism, and earning respect are things that have been present in the previous series, but which are being explored more fully in Discovery. Whether or not they are being explored well is certainly up for debate.

I like several of the programs listed, but I find STD terrible so far. The main problem involves writing.

DS9 is my favorite series followed closely by TNG, but I voted that I didn't like DSC for lack of a better voting option, though in truth my position could more accurately be described as finding it mediocre so far, but not actively disliking it or giving up on it yet. There are characters, scenes, tech/production design, and so forth that I enjoy, and the episodes actually set aboard Discovery herself have shown an improvement over the first two episodes, so I'm still hanging in there.

Unsurprisingly, most DIS-fans seem to be Niners. That's goona' lead to interesting future "What's your favourite Trek series"-polls. Because until then, all the other series (TOS, TNG, VOY, ENT) were somewhat comparable in tone and storytelling, and thus there was serious vote splitting going on, while the Niners voted pretty much as a unified block, and as such DS9 often won the "most popular Trek series"-poll. Something that probably wouldn't have happened as often with a ranked voting system. But now, I think DS9 has a very comparable series in DIS that may take a lot of votes away due to a similar fanbase. So we'll see how that changes "best series"-polls in the future.

Another observation:
Most 9ers I saw, say the first episode ("Vulcan hello") was the weakest, and the series gained steam from that point onward. While I, more a TOS/TNG-guy, and others think the first episode was closest to what I wish in new Trek, with a focus mostly on exploration, space walks and a visit to a new planet with strange, unknown (but not hostile) alien creatures. Albeit a bit clunky in it's execution, for me personally it was more interesting than the ongoing klingon war-arc or even the subspace-mushroom-boogaloo.

Just shows how diverse the Trek fandom has gotten until this point, and how diverse the preferences have grown! While still all obviously falling under the umbrella of "Trek", and being clearly identifiably as that nonetheless. We got a big franchise, you guys!

But that there's a big overlap between DS9-fans and DIS-fans, more than between any other Trek series with DIS, is IMO both revealing and not very surprising.
