News CBS orders MAGNUM PI reboot

Looks like the continuation with his daughter is out the window and this will be a straight-up do-over.

Maybe Hawaii Five-0 ends this season and Alex O'Loughlin becomes Magnum for next season. He wouldn't even have to move. :p

More likely all the CBS ex- SEALs know each other along with Sam Hanna on NCIS

It would be Meta since Tony from the original NCIS was a big magnum PI fan, he would refer to the show in the early seasons.

CBS only ordered a pilot which we may never even see.

I rather have continuations or... I don't know.... something new.

Will Magnum be all Grim this time around? The great thing about the original 80s show was that it had its lighthearted and funny moments, and Sellick as Magnum was a likeable guy.

Plus you need the awesome red Ferrari.

CBS doesn't do all grim except for Criminal Minds franchise. Seeing the show runner comes out of Hawaii 5-0 which is in the Tommyverse with happy music playing under a nuclear or bio-terrorism threat NCIS Los Angeles I doubt if you get the grim PTSD surviving veteran.

Well, we knew it was going to happen eventually. But I've always felt that instead of a reboot, that it should be more of an in-universe continuation. At the very least, I would hope Tom Selleck is asked to be an Executive Producer so that he can provide direction and feedback since he so embodied the role.

I think that as long as Blue Bloods is on the air, Selleck wouldn't want to divide his time. But with the way this season is looking, Blue Bloods is probably on its way out. I will be surprised if it's given an 9th season.

"Tommyverse"?

I
"Tommyverse"?
Before Detective Munch started crossing over to different shows there was the medical drama St. Elsewhere. Tommy was the autistic son of a character who in a famous finale it became clear that the crossovers to that show links out to many others if you follow the thread.

^ Oh no, not this Tommy Westphall crap again... :sigh:

srsly, not all of those crossovers are real crossovers. They can't ALL be true. And it definitely doesn't hold up that Tommy somehow dreamed all that stuff. Read the link...

Harm Rabb is as far back as I can take this one. On Simon And Simon the original Magnum PI was a TV show before there two crossovers. While Five-O was a TV show but some took Magnum's dialogue as McGarrett being a real famous state cop.

Already on its 8th season, is it? I remember when it first started airing. Didn't take me long to feel that it was very formulaic, and I don't know if they changed it, but they always had the family dinners at the exact same place in the episodes.

Well, I'll just copy and paste my comments about this from another forum where we talked about it when the news broke of a film in 2013 that never got made (thankfully):

We don't need a remake, reboot, revisioning of "Magnum, pi". Tom Selleck is still a draw, still interesting, and hasn't gotten us to hate him unlike some other Holylwood actors/actresses.
I think a good TV movie or miniseries returning back to the universe to find out what happened to Magnum, Higgins, Magnum's friends, and the Masters' estate, would be great. Tie up loose ends, maybe create a new mystery around Robin Masters, who knows what.

And Mike Post is still alive to score it.

As long as it doesn't suck huge Yorballs like some TV movies ("Return to Mayberry", anyone?), I'd be up to it.

I think we're on season 7 here - and yes, family dinners are sill around the same spot in most if not all episodes.

I think the networks must have a list of every old tv show and they just run down the list, checking them off as they decide to make it the next reboot, yet somehow they never get to ones you want to see like Quantum Leap,Northern Exposure or Wonder Years.
