Discovery a Netflix hit

I'm with others on this - refreshing and novel to be a UK fan and not feeling like you're at the bottom of the barrel when it comes to Star Trek. I remember having to wait months for the videos to be released because we never had satellite TV, and it was better than waiting years for the BBC to pick them up!

I do feel for North American fans though. Sounds like you've got a really shitty deal.

I've had Netflix for a while for Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders, plus Lillihammer.

I must admit, I've been struggling to find much else to watch on it. Mrs Relayer's watched The Crown and Stranger Things.

Discovery was a VERY welcome addition.

I subbed for Discovery really and been happy with Netflix overall, I had been meaning to check Netflix out again recently and got it a month or two before Discovery. I forgot they had all of Star Trek on their service at the time, which is worth the money alone for me.

One of my main memories of DS9 BBC2 as a kid was Sacrifice of Angels Part 1, it ends on a cliffhanger and I am super excited. Then I think it said "Deep Space 9 will return in three weeks after the snooker has finished" I was fucking PISSED. Fortunately I had made a friend in school who used to buy the VHS tapes that were released before it aired on the BBC.

The worst words a young Trek fan could hear were "Due to the overrunning test match, tonight's episode of Star Trek will be shown at a later date".

Star Trek was always shown as a kids slot filler (6pm ?) on the BBC's second channel which unceremoniously booted it every time something for the grown-ups popped up. Normally live sport.

6.45pm :) with the 6pm slot being Fresh Prince or something else I can't remember, I think they used to show some older episodes of Trek sometimes.

They used to show TNG, Farscape (never really got into it), Voyager, DS9 etc. This was before we had all these channels and Netflix spoiling us, I mean I now have every single series available on demand on Netflix and on TV every day there are a ton of Trek episodes on 3 different channels. Sometimes you have TOS on one channel and DS9/TNG/Voy on the other.

Ah the 6pm BBC2 slot, the stuff of dreams. Thunderbirds, Stingray, Captain Scarlet, The Simpsons, Doctor Who, Quantum Leap, Fresh Prince, The New Avengers and a shit load of Star Trek. Happy times.

Happy for Trek, happy for Netflix.

Hate that I'm stuck with shitty CBS all access in 720p and 2.0 sound Paying to watch immersion busting commercials unless I fork over even more. Kind of disgusted actually.

Nope. In America we have "we are joining the regularly scheduled program, already in progress." :scream:

I don't consider it "shtty" per say. $6 bucks a month for me is very reasonable. Also on my off-brand phone ( Blu, real effing good phone btw ) the Netflix app doesn't work. EVERY OTHER FRICKEN APP works, including CBS, but Netflix just won't. Go figure, so while I'm at work I can endlessly stream the other Trek shows, which is cool.

So I wouldn't quite say it's a shitty deal, Not the most ideal but I don't feel I'm getting ripped off.

I wish I could watch it on Netflix,

the CBS app just sucks to use in comparison.

I'm sure you've been through all this...but what are you running the CBS app off of? I have mine on my Xbox OneS and I've never had an issue. I even live-streamed a football game last Thursday just to see how it worked...and it was very good.

the PS4,

and when I say "sucks to use" I mean it's use and feel. Netflix has NAILED the interface.

I'm on episode 20, season 3 of DS9, when I close it out and come back tomorrow, i'll have to select it and scroll all the way to 21 just to continue,

ya know, an extra 1.5 seconds of work. I know, first world problems but for that, and other reasons, Netflix is just tops.

HA! Those were the days! DS9 always got the shitty end of the BBC stick!

It really did. I gave up and ended up renting from Blockbuster, eventually buying the tapes as soon as they were released - a good couple of years ahead of the BBC!

$6 a month would have been absolute bliss then!

Yes! Especially considering you used to get only two eps for about £14 if you coughed up the spends for the Videos!
