Lorca could also have had a first officer like Burham who would basically shove her captain into an escape pod against their will to live even if the ship is on self destruct.
He had a reason. To hurt Mudd. The thing was also stealing him food.
He killed his crew and tortured Ripper. He wouldn't make a Starfleet officer's ar.. armpit. He's a Starfleet officer (and a captain at that) - he shouldn't go around throwing life forms that show no deliberate hostility against walls.

For throwing the bug against the wall nearly killing it for absolutely no reason.
Of all the problems this show has, how Lorca treated the bug isn't one of them. I would have done the same thing in his position. If its alive, the Klingons can simply paste another listening device to it.
Wasn't it a robot?
I’m disappointed. I expected a punchline. You know, like "he’s a fungi" and "shroom that goes vroom".

And you felt the need to make an entire topic about that instead of just posting your thought in the thread for the episode itself?
People, it’s a Trek trope to threaten to destroy your own ship. It’s even a Trek trope to destroy your own ship. It’s NOT a Trek trope to destroy your own ship with the crew STILL INSIDE!
And if the captain does as is the lone survivor Starfleet certainly won’t award him by giving him command of a brand new highly classified ship!!!
It's shocking that this story if taken at face value is not just disgusting. No excuses. How on earth did he get rewarded for it?People, it’s a Trek trope to threaten to destroy your own ship. Lorca was getting results. During a war, that counts.

Yes but during war, we often compromise our morals in the name of "getting results" because winning becomes paramount. It has happened countless times in history and we are seeing that play out in Discovery.
