Quentin Tarantino has an idea for a ST film (kind of)

I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount is quiet not because they're not interested but rather that they're complying to an agreement with CBS. Remember, a deal was made with CBS to not debut or promote a new show in 2016 so that Beyond would get most of the attention, to avoid "brand confusion". Now, Discovery is about to make its debut this weekend, and Paramount suddenly announcing Tarantino as the next director would take attention away from the show thus break an agreement between the two companies.

Trek being split apart has really made this more complicated.

I don't think it will happen. I think Tarantino has said he only wanted to make 10 movies and I don't think he would do a franchise movie as one of those movies. I don't even think he wants to do anymore book adapations like he did with "Jackie Brown" and only wants to do his own stuff. Perhaps we can all settle on Micheal Bay, instead.:)

After he's done 10 movies maybe he'll start doing sequels - to his own stuff (Pulp Fiction 2) and other (Trek)

In a recent interview Quentin Tarantino made mention of what type of Star Trek film he would like to make/see...Tarantino’s idea is to “expand some of the great, classic episodes and just easily expand them to 90 minutes or more and really do some really amazing, amazing stuff”

Tarantino specifically mentions "City on the Edge of Forever" as an episode that would make a great movie. It's one of the great Trek classics”

I for one would LOVE to see Quentin Tarantino’s take on Star Trek and his idea of expanding City on the Edge of Forever could be spectacular...Imagine a world class director taking on that story with modern f/x.

If I were in charge of Paramount I would be on the phone with him the second I saw this article.

Oooh, agreed! What he's known for can be controversial, but he could do Trek wonders. Now if they get the people who wrote "Beyond" back, that would be the icing on the cake. (no joke, the reboot movies got better with each outing and "Beyond" was the most consistently good and truest to form...)

We know Tarantino likes to act in his movies and I wonder what role he would play. I could see him playing a Starfleet Admiral or if they did do "Guardian of Forever" he could play Scotty selling drugs on the "Enterprise." We can have a great scene were KIrk goes and gets some space herrion and Scotty talks about how when he went on vacation not to long ago he got lost and had to hail some aliens for proper coordinates and they gave him the wrong ones just to be a asshole.

I also wonder who would do the voice of the Guardian. To me that would be perfect for Samuel Jackson though more fun if it was Christopher Walken.

I'd enjoy seeing Tarantino do a Trek film, though probably not Star Trek: Kill Edith. That episode works as well as it does because of the constraints it worked within.. 45 minutes or so to explain it all and get people home, plus the high stakes involved at the time the show was featured.

now a Tarantino remake of Voyage home? Oh double-dumbass hell yes.

How about a movie focussing on Cyrano Jones, Harry Mudd, the Ferengi and an Orion Cartel competing for a suitcase containing an unknown object of great imortance?

Sort of like The Maltese Falcon, only said mysterious object is not Maltese and not a falcon*?

* Probably not, anyway.

It would be really interesting to see Tarantino's take on Trek. He's got a pretty distinct style and I wonder how the film about the Manson murders he's working on will turn out

Not sure how QT is the right person to do Trek. All of his movies have a bunch of people standing or sitting around talking for long lengths of time where they just talk about nothing. The Kelvin Universe movies are fast, frantic, and rapid. Not sure how they would be compatible.

C'mon dude, QTs (potential) involvement in ST4 has to be the best news for Trek since ST09 was announced, or even the return of Meyer for VI

Oh QT is a great director, no doubt about it. I'm a huge fan. I have all of his movies on Blu-ray, even. But I just don't see how he's the right person for a Star Trek movie.

Back in the early 90's, James Cameron almost got the rights to produce and direct Jurassic Park, but Spielberg beat him by a few hours. When Cameron watched the finished product, he realized that Spielberg was indeed the right man for the job as Spielberg created a classic movie that appealed to everyone, as Cameron's version would've been much darker and would've had a lot in common with Aliens. He even wanted Arnold to have the starring role in it!

My point is, a great director isn't always the right man for the job when they try to venture into uncharted territories.

birth movies death rightly points out that it's unlikely tarantino will direct given his very selective filmography. i also think his schedule makes it difficult to believe paramount would wait for him to finish with his current commitments to start production. it's more likely he'll end up being a producer and paramount can advertise the film as an abrams/tarantino joint. which is super interesting, if bizarre. it'll get butts in the seats.

there had been some discussion here that abrams and bad robot's star trek contract had run out after star trek beyond but this is the best indication that the kelvin timeline is still alive. i'm just not expecting kirk and spock to be calling each other motherfu--er any time soon.

THIS IS SPECTACULAR NEWS!!!!!

Beyond thrilled that a film maker of the caliber of Quentin Tarantino may be making a Star Trek film...This will make the next Star Trek film into a major event. Well done J.J.
