Excellent episode. I rated it highly due to its well executed in-depth look at Saru's character and its exposition of Saru's and Burnham's complex relationship. Definitely the best one thus far.

Also, regarding the mirror universe--Stamets notes his increased awareness of the universe after the mycelium exposure. Perhaps he is aware of multiple versions of himself--yet conceals this to Culber (his mirror image literally displaying contentment at obscuring this fact). Stamets marked flaw is his ego and perhaps this new found "power" will serve as a device to expose and develop his character. Of course, this is only one plausible possibility out of many.

Anyone else notice that Lt. Tyler used the classic two handed punch?

It probably wasn’t. Too obvious.

Only obvious to us. Don't over-analyze. Stamets, with his primal human hostility, uses himself to jump them somewhere "he" feels is comfortable. Then we see his *mirror image* laughing diabolically? Nah.. Not too obvious. Instead, very obvious.

I'm confused about Starfleet. So, he murdered his ENTIRE CREW out of a misguided sense they'd be tortured and murdered (or perhaps not) and he's still commanding starship.

And not only that, they gave him one of two brand new spanking prototypes testing new weapon systems. Plus they let him bring in the only ever mutineer in history of Starfleet and have her work on the main system they are testing.

It doesn't just value original thinking but also British Commonwealth actors who can pretend to be from other countries.

Mudd knew

Though not the entire story.

Yes, Mudd knew he lost the ship but obviously not the "I kill all of them" bit.

Ironically, it feeds into the Voq is Tyler theory because.

1. He couldn't have been having sex with L'Rell this entire time because she's been marooned.
2. Voq would find that badass not horrifying.

Then again, Federation Starships do have a self destruct command. Kirk used it to thwart Bele. And of course he used it again in STIII. Picard used it a couple of times too. So it seems destroying the ship even when manned is a thing Starfleet does

It's getting harder with each episode to say this series belongs to the prime timeline. I can understand updating the look of the technology to our expectations of what technology would like. TOS was created twenty years after the first modern computer. We are many decades further on from those primitive machines, when our computers are doing things they could not imagine then. However, the design of the D-7 and the unnamed starbase at the beginning do not look like any aesthetic familiar to me of the Klingon or the Federation cultures. Then, there is this.

"I knew what waited for them on Qo'noS - degradation, torture, slow, public death. It's the Klingon way. To spread terror."

Are they Klingons or ISIL?

They eat the hearts of their enemies. Wouldn’t surprised me if they did this as well.
