It never dawned upon me to grade it in this format. But then in retrospect you'd have to readjust your ratings, if your 10 will always represent the best episode to date?

To me 10 should exemplify flawlessness. There are only a handful of such episodes in the Trek history.

Interesting. I’ve always graded based on enjoyment. Someone’s flawless ness might be someone else’s crap. That’s the flexibility of grading I guess.

*Harry Harry Harry, how we love to hate you so. Rain Wilson did a great job with the character, just wish he had to the slight brogue but I can live without it
Doesn't Harry drop the brogue in Mudd's Women after the Leo Walsh ruse is found out? I don't think he uses it in I, Mudd.

I'm curious, considering you gave this 9.5, is this truly one of the best things you've ever seen in your life? Or are you just very liberal with your 9.5s?

I pass out grades based on the quality of what I'm seeing, and Choose Your Pain legitimately earns - and deserves - a 9.5 based on its content both narratively and in terms of character interaction and development.

The TOS Klingons were Smoothies who lost their strength due to that virus in that one episode. I assumed these guys are not smoothies, but I can believe that they have been effected by the virus enough to lose their strength to human-like levels, and will only regain it at some point before the TNG era.

Top Ten US Generals of all time. #1 is George Washington.

Not that I dispute what you're saying. History looks kindly on good leaders (and Washington won where it counts, namely Yorktown and thus the entire American Revolution. Presumably, Archer won the Romulan War).
the truth must be said won the battle for the help of the French

Stamet is just too damn awesome. Breakout character of the show. Such a loveable asshole.

Nah, Tilly is the best character on the show. Without a doubt.

The shows we are seeing have been in the can for a while. Neither Orville or DISCO had an opportunity to see each others shows when they were being made.

That's what THEY want you to think. With all the hacking going on you don't know for sure if CBS didn't hack FOX months ago and stole The Orville scripts. You don't. Or DO you?!?!

Rainn Wilson really shone as Harry Mudd. I can say he's a believable Harcourt Fenton Mudd as he likely would be almost 10 years before Kirk first meets him. Same basic personality, just less of a pirate persona and no brogue, which as somebody else mentioned may simply have been part of his Leo Walsh persona.

...Some people might see Captain Lorca's actions in blowing up his first ship and crew as tainting the character, but, for me, they only cement my love for him because they show that he's willing to make hard choices, even if he's judged harshly for those choices by others...
I want to see more about Lorca!

So what I have decided is that I like the use of ongoing story threads and how they tie them up or don't. Going into Discovery, my biggest worry was that it would all be so serialized that there would be no self-contained storylines, no reason to ever watch one episode by itself. While I don't yet know that I will want to rewatch just a single episode alone out of the ones so far (though I can see rewatching TVH and BoBS as a mini-movie), i am not concerned about it, because each episode does have its own self contained story(ies). Context: Burnham joining the Disco, Butcher: getting the spore drive working and Corvan II, Choose: rescuing Lorca, Saru as captain, and letting Ripper go.

With that in mind, the on-going or new story threads I am most looking forward to: learning more about Lorca's backstory and his pain, Saru and Burnham reconnecting, Burnham and Tilly's mentorship, Stamets' mirror issue and powering the spore drive.

Great stuff.
