Spot stood on his former "owners" computer console and watched the human called Laforge and the Klingon called Worf going through his stuff. The one called LaForge seemed very shaken as he packed some of the items that his former "owner" had owned into a big, mobile trunk that was placed on a anti-grav carrier. Everything from his pantings of the android called Lal to his musical guitar to the paper cards he would play games with during the recreation moments called Poker. The Klingon seemed less emotional which was the way of his culture but even he, Spot new had been impacted by the death of his former "owner" because his scowl was not so tense looking.

Spot knew his time with the people called Federations had ended and he needed to move on in his mission to explore the universe. With that said he used his paws to tap some buttons on the console of the computer he was standing on and the transporter beam took him away from the room into another room called, shuttlecraft and he quickly jumped up on that console and pressed the right buttons allowing the shuttlecraft doors to open, which then allowed him to manuever the ship out, where he then activated the shields and spore drive instantly taking him to the Randi Tyo system. Nothing much in the system but it was as good a place to begin his new life. Only then did he allow himself to feel the emotion called sadness for his former "owner" and contemplated on the hopes that his next set of companions would be as much fun and kind as the ones he had just spent over a decade with, never knowing the fact that he was a Groganite, A shapeshifting sentient cat that had to take many shapes to live but never the same one, twice. He felt a little guilty about some of the brainwashing and computer programing on his former "owner" and companions so they would never notice that he had taken many shapes and even genders with them not even knowing it. Even cloned a bunch of offsprings called Kittys to play the role of mother for one of his changes.

Spot was taken out of his contemplating when the shuttlecrafts, proximity alarm went off and he checked the sensors and noticed a alien craft had entered the area that was called his port side. He checked the scans and they read as Pakleds. He knew they were a people called a species that was known for not being so bright but he also knew that sterotypes are sterotypes and should be treated as such. The shuttle's comm panel started to beep which meant the Pakleds were trying open a channel. Spot knew he didn't want to look like a human cat so he quickly morphed into the Pakled version of what they called toru's. Now he was all green with scales up his back and a more pointy looking head shape called a pyramid. Spot then opened the channel with his paw and The lead Pakled talked "Is Anyone aboard? We look for things that makes us go and for things that make us fun?" Spot hissed in the way a toru would hiss. The Pakled smiled. "You can't make us go but you might make us fun" The Pakled pressed a button on his ship and said "Welcome Aboard" as the Pakled transporter beam snagged Spot. In that instance Spot thought "TIme for another experience called exploration and adventure" and then he was gone.

That was interesting, if a bit bizarre. I thought the almost stream-of-consciousness narration style was appropriate for a story told from a shapeshifting cat's point of view.

The addition of the spore drive was quite hipster of you.

Is this for the contest? It certainly fits with the theme.

I wouldn't mind adding it the contest. How would I do that?

Put a post linking to this thread in October Writing Contest, I guess? The initial post doesn't specify, but that's how Bry_Sinclair did it.

It is indeed. Entrants need to post a link to their story in the contest thread so that their work can be included on the list.

It is a very interesting concept, one that could be explored in some weird and wonderful ways and does answer some questions about Spot. I also like the idea of such a highly advanced species being in such a simple form who just want to explore and observe without any hidden and/or evil agenda behind it.

I just love your metaphor and symbolism about changes you go through when losing a loved one. Spot will never be the same again after Data's death, when he says goodbye to his friend he also says goodbye to himself. I love how Spot's physical changes reflect his emotional change adapting to his new life as he moves on, and when he finds someone new he is different than he was before, even though he'll have companionship again it's never the same for you twice. Thank you kindly for sharing your story, I also like your organization into three parts, where Spot first accepts his loss, then he moves on and reflects on how he's changed during his time with his friend, then finally he finds his new self and his new life.

This may be the first bit of fanfic on this board I've actually read all the way through.

    It was entertaining. Thanks.
