Bill Shatner open to appearing in Discovery

Unless he plays a new character, I don't see how it could happen without Shatnerverse/Enterprise Season 4/Kelvin Timeline fanwank to the hundredth power.

I really liked Rick Berman's idea for Shatner in ENT, where he was Chef and just happened to look like famous future captain James T. Kirk - so much so, Daniels recruits him to fill in for the real deal at some important event the real Kirk is absent for. Cue a Trekverse remake of Dave, where Daniels and the crew teach hapless Chef Shatner to act like Kirk.

I heard the Transporter Room 3 podcast where he says this, from like a week ago. He is willing, but it would take a lot of $, and obviously his age is an issue. Personally I love the guy and appreciate his interest in coming back but I don't know how you do it so it's not just terrible fan service. I don't want 80 year old Jim Kirk in Discovery. It makes zero sense. Could he do some audio logs or something Lorca could read sometime? Absolutely. Just make it work.

That would actually be really cool.

Much the same way Ellen Ripley/Sigorney Weaver reprised her role for Alien Isolation in voice form.

James T could guest star in season 2 where he gets a virus that ages him really badly and becomes bill shatner, then after a couple of episodes they cure it with a hypospray and he becomes chris pine.

easy

Make this happen! Obviously 'making sense' bar in this show is already really low, so they can come up with something vaguely sensible.

My preferred way would be basically plundering the plot of 'Yesterday's Enterprise'; Discovery travels in alternative future where they meet alternative future Kirk.

I feel Like he'd show up on set, forget why he was there then assume it was a star trek convention. He'd tell everyone to get a life then go around taking photos with people, whether they wanted a photo or not and then ask for $100 for the opportunity.

He can play James T Kirk's grandfather, Admiral William S. Kirk

Or maybe his great-grandfather. Kirk is only 23 during DIS. Shatner is 86. So it would work, too. That said it is not like Shatner is really advocating for an appearance and it sounds like he would only consider it if he would play James T. Kirk again.

James Kirk is 23
George Kirk is 52 or 53 (he never reached 30 in the Kelvinverse, according to STB)
So its possible for Shatner to be the grandfather, even if he played his real age.

As much as I love Jim Kirk and William Shatner, I'll pass. This show is already knee deep in fanwank.

Of course it is possible for him to play the grandfather. He could also be the grandfather if he would be 110. I am just saying it would ALSO work, if he plays his great-grandfather. Doesn't have to be the paternal great-grandfather by the way.

I don't think the exact age of George Kirk is canon, he did look young though in ST09. Chris Hemsworth was only 26, when the movie was in the cinemas in 2009 and his scenes were filmed a year or more earlier. If George Kirk was as old as the actor during filming, he would be below 50 during DIS.

By the way is it even canon that the surname Kirk comes from the paternal site? I looked around on Memory Alpha and haven't found any on screen reference there yet for it.
