Chekov Replacement?

That's exactly where I've seen the photo my Lord! Hair combed in such a way to hide those thinning areas and a wraparound tunic that looks like it came from the 23rd century!

Thank you! It looks like the hair he grew long for Star Trek, so I'd guess this portrait was taken well into the second season. But not a uniform, so he might have gotten this head shot on his own dime for career purposes.

Was this pic taken after Koenig joined the show or before? Because in his first few episodes he had that giant wig! Come to think of it they should have kept him in that for the whole season, same way they should have had Scotty with his grey cut instead of his fifties grease job for the third!

I just had a thought: that tunic looks like the vintage medical coats that doctors always wore on screen from the 1950s to about 1970.

Maybe the studio had an old doctor's tunic and dyed it for some reason, and they put him in it to get a sense of how he'd look in a "futuristic shirt."

Also, his hair is very close to where it was in this publicity still:

I think neither Koenig or Chekov added much to the show.
Not sure what the ladies in the late 60s found attractive -- but I kind of doubt it was Koenig's Chekov.
Of course I've grown fond of Koenig over the years and what's done is cwertainly done, but they could have done better as far as acting, looks and sex appeal. And they had no blond males regulars in the cast -- wouldn't a Russian have been the chance.

Not sure, but I think the network wanted to attract younger viewers, maybe more of the female 18-22 year old (?) segment of society. That's what's strange because Koenig/Chekov always looked late twenties to me, especially with his bald spot covered by his combover hair do thingy.
