Discovery may make reference to TOS and other bits of "canon,"...
I really wish they would lean less on trivia and do their own thing.

Me too. I hate the connect-the-dots crap. Makes the universe feel small and fanwanky.
Some connect-the-dots is fine but one of TNG's strengths was that it only rarely and only within the context of a story referenced TOS and Kirk's crew. That way when a Spock or a Scotty showed up it was a genuine delight to see them since they'd only rarely been referred to in previous episodes if they were even mentioned at all.
Of course it is. The same way every Trek show was it's own thing and built it's version of future from it's present.Discovery may make reference to TOS and other bits of "canon," either this timeline or that timeline. But despite the producers insistence that the show is 10 years before TOS, the show is its own thing. Reboot, reimagining, or whatever.
It's like how any of the DC shows and movies will namedrop a character or location or something we all know is in Clark Kent or Bruce Wayne or whoever's past or future. We know what they're hinting at, but we also know it's not going to go down quite the same way as in the comics or earlier movies.Discovery may make reference to TOS and other bits of "canon," either this timeline or that timeline. Unless anyone out there really thinks in 9 and a half years, the same Starfleet that gave us the USS Shenzhou and Discovery will have women in miniskirts being held by their captain on the bridge during a crisis?
"Gant and his team from the Shenzhou wore dark blue Starfleet utility jumpsuit uniforms with black trim, while the Enterprise team sported pale gold or light blue jerseys over black trousers — a new uniform style that so far had been issued exclusively to the crews of Starfleet’s vaunted Constitution- class starships."
Star Trek: Discovery: Desperate Hours
I can reword that and make it just as valid of a statement:Discovery may make reference to TOS and other bits of "canon," either this timeline or that timeline. But despite the producers insistence that the show is 10 years before TOS, the show is its own thing. Reboot, reimagining, or whatever.
Then it could be argued that neither is DSC a story reboot (ignoring the "using same actors" issue, since I think it's not relevant).TNG also used the same TOS actors in the same roles. Neither TNG nor TMP is a reboot.
Just overlook that 10 years before STOS we have instantaneous mind melding capabilities with humans. Improbability drive with giant alien pacifist armored creatures. Albino Klingons with coffin encrusted space ships. HELP ME UNDERSTAND this new star trek reality, or give me so shrooms to follow this reincarnation of star trek.could be taking place in the TOS story universe, just like TMP took place in the TOS story universe despite TMP's change in visuals.
If you read a book would you expect absolutely everything to be explained in the first two chapters?I stopped watching after episode 2. Have they explained why the Klingon's biology is different yet? Or why the technology is so advanced? Otherwise, I will continue to abstain from watching more episodes.
WWIII was mid 21st Century, Khan was Eugenics wars, which Greg Cox's books greatly turn into an X Files conspiracy which explains them.Khan and World War III in the 90's.
Pretty sure DS9 brought this up again to stop the Changeling BashirTMP brought up the idea that you have to leave the star system before going to warp, otherwise it's a massive risk.
Although the difference is bigger, it's not like we havent seen different uniforms at the same time before, like TNG and DS9. Even Generations had the same crew wearing different uniforms...I expect they will need to bridge that cap, as they will change uniforms to match TOS otherwise it will not be canon anymore. But it is 9.5 years in the future so it may take a while.
I have a feeling side effects of the "improbability drive" will result in its disuse (such as what happened with the transwarp drive).Just overlook that 10 years before STOS we have instantaneous mind melding capabilities with humans.
