I heard there was a rabid bat at the Oklahoma City Zoo this weekend.

    Friend of yours? :guffaw:

Reminds me of the time over a year ago now when Alec was telling everyone that he had been invited by Facebook to screen Prelude for them at Facebook’s headquarters, almost as though Mark Zuckerberg had personally invited him, when in fact the truth was he had merely somehow managed to weasel his way onto a random panel discussion for a small meeting hosted by a very obscure little local group who just happened to reserve one of Facebook‘s many on-campus conference rooms that they make available for others to use. The group was otherwise not affiliated with Facebook in any way. As I recall Alec showed up with Prelude loaded onto a laptop in the hope that maybe someone there would want to watch it...on the laptop...while he was there. My impression was no one did.

I dunno. I have an alt avatar with a star of David on the blue blanket if I can find it (the avatar, I mean).

@He's Dead Jim! I have witnesses that I was in Boston all weekend. That might've been Aunt Gladys.

Off-topic: Sorry, but bats get a bad reputation for carrying rabies, when in fact the occurrence is actually very low compared to other animals. Raccoons and skunks, being omnivores, are the most common carriers of rabies by far, followed by foxes, coyotes, and feral cats and dogs. That said, however, if you do find a bat on the ground and/or not able to fly very well, it may have rabies as the disease screws up their balance and thus the ability to fly. Or it could just be injured. The myth that every bat that gets into your house did so because it has rabies is flat out wrong.

    :D

I killed a bat one time with a pair of nunchucks the year I was staying in my fraternity house - uppermost level, close to the attic where it came in. I saw this thing flying around over my head while I was watching "A Bridge Too Far". All my roommates freaked out and ran into the bathroom/hid under their bed sheets. I whipped out the old Mandarin Speed Chucks and clocked it as it dove on me. I was just pissed that it interrupted one of my all-time favorite WWII films. I was forever known as "Bat Killer" amongst my brethren - I believe my legacy still lives on today, a quarter of a century later. Fuck has it been that long?

I once had an issue with a wild turkey, at least that's what it said on the bottle.

I am curious to see the new person's elaboration on what is this great already achieved progress he believes he is joining.

Axanar lost their money and assets except for a half finished bridge. They have a mailing list but a ton of pissed donors. They lost most if not all their stars. The project is now a fannish sidecurrent to canon rather than staking out new territory. They were laughed out of court trying to defend their business misconduct. They blew a golden opportunity to reconcile and get support of key figures in Trek, instead, countersuing. Their script hasn't been the support-engendering vehicle they need. They have a long history of abusing their own donors online.

And the person who managed all that into existence is still at the helm and encouraging his followers' fantasies of violence against fact-checkers of the project.

What on earth could this new person see as a positive?

Good God, it just gets worse and worse with every story. At this point I'd pay money to see a season long "South Park" parody of him. A;ec Johnson, the crazy-eyed man who lives in another reality, hoping his short film will change all of SP.

Well, LFIM has a tendency to assume and announce a lot more about people then they originally intended. It could be that this person just said "Yes, I'll take a look at the script" and AP heard "I'll be your co-writer".

@muCephi : as long as it wasn't being produced by Paramount or CBS, it would always have been a fannish sidecurrent to canon, just like all other fan films.

A prime example being when LFIM invited fan film productions for a discussion on fan film guidelines during the lawsuit and LFIM twisted that into a public statement declaring said fan film productions supported him against CBS/P. Manipulation, thy name is LFIM.

I think that was one of those times when fingers on both sides were hovering over the nuke buttons, but it got straightened out just in time!

I thought it more like that FAMILY GUY would do such a parody, once Seth MacFarlane find out who's running the Orville fan site.

My suspicion was that he wanted to stake out a time period that would never have been touched by the studios, and develop it extensively. But yes, krill vs whale

That doesn't seem impossible at this point, does it?

We use the Bat Persuader 9000(TM) around here (an old tennis racket).

But my husband does the bat persuading, @Sgt_G . Me, I scream like Hoshi and hide under my desk.

That's okay - not everyone is cut out to be the bat slayer of their tribe. :)

Speaking of bats, I saw something cool at two local Wal-Mart's a few weeks ago during the nights:

Bats flying around light polls, catching moths and bugs flying around them. I covered a light with a hand and could see as many as ten flying in the semi-dark sky above.
