The Last Ship - season four (discussion, spoilers and speculation)

The question was kind of rhetorical. They've had this going what, three weeks now, and it seems the earliest we're getting an explanation will be next week, so that's a month we've had this issue lingering. Our time, of course, on the show it's probably been a week or whatever.

So how much longer they going to milk this thing with the Master Chief coughing up blood?

I doubt they'll drag it into next season so it'll happen in one of the two episodes airing on Sunday. i wonder what's going on with him. Is the virus returning in a new mutated form or is it something else?

So Weller's character is really nuttier than he appeared in the previous episode. Now he's really off the deep end thinking that his dead son is still alive. I was surprised at that because it seemed like Gorgio and Lucia were aware he was there. It guess I missed them not acknowledging his prescene there.

Yeah.. I totally bought into them all being there.. And to have him even call out Georgio in the episode was pretty clever.. We, as viewers, are now so used to him taking abuse that it didn't even register with me when Georgio didn't respond.

Kind of like The Sixth Sense to a degree.. First time I saw it, it didn't even occur to me that Bruce Willis was actually a ghost.. (sorry for the spoilers. LOL)

I wonder if they did it well enough that if we go back and watch the episodes again that it works that the son isn't really there. Though he was probably too much the perfect son but then again this show lays it on a bit thick sometimes. I mean, if anyone seems like he can't be real it'd probably be Fletcher lol.

It's kind of funny IMDB just lists him as "Vellek's Son" instead of Christof (I think) which is a bit suspicious.

Well, the finale aired, and you know, it was rather meh. I see after weeks of coughing up blood, Master Chief is told off-handedly he had a punctured lung, told to stay off-duty which he disobeys but it apparently doesn't make his condition worse. Vellek went off the deep-end, and we see numerous close-calls for the characters though everyone makes it in the end. Nathan James ramming the Greek ship was cool and badass, and it was fun seeing the entire crew take part in the boarding party. But, I don't know. In the end, the season seemed to lack a certain gravitas.

I thought it was a solid ending. I liked that they kept it pretty true to naval action and worked within a given scope. I thought last season they got a bit too far removed from ship side action so this was a welcome return. We sometimes talk of Last Ship as reminding of Star Trek and Chandler got to give a big Kirk speech before Vellek made his choice. I kind of wanted to see someone attempt to shoot him in the leg though. :)

Vellek basically defeated himself before the end and was shown to be just as pathetic as all those he thought beneath him with the Nostos, probably much moreso. Even Giorgio and Lucia could see the folly by the end and there was a bit of a futile fatality about it all.

I was really surprised to see how much they had prepared for the next season trailer.

That was the strangest boarding party ever. But I guess everyone had to get their face time in, especially since every character on the ship is a fully trained combatant. And not a single one got hurt either. They all had plot armor this season except for Sunshine and O'Connor.

Did you notice Granderson had nothing to do this season and wasn't even in a couple episodes? They really have nothing to do character-wise except for the main three. The rest are basically there to just perform their ship's functions. The biggest threat the Master Chief faced this season was an injury that didn't cause any missions to fail or his life to end. It was just sort of there.

This show is starting to feel like when 24 was running out of ideas.

That's quite the promotion for Foster there.

I was really surprised to see how much they had prepared for the next season trailer.
Not just Foster, did you see all the stars. it is hard to believe that the US barely had any 4 star Admirals before WWII and now somehow the population exploded and was force aged after the global pandemic so we have full fleets, and service academies

I paused her image in the trailer, she's wearing the insignia of a full Commander, so it's only one rank higher than she currently holds.
However she answer the radio as "Nathan James actual" making her the Captain of Nathan James so we are skipping over any time spent as XO in a time jump

A decent portion of it must be in order to have had that trailer. Okay, all that footage is probably from the first three episodes or so, but still.

So finally finished watch Season 4, I liked it better than season 3. Can't wait til season 5!
