Will Burnham have any romance on the show?

I got to think it will happen at some point because it happens to ever tv character. I'm not sure if they have a established character as of yet that it makes sense though I wonder about Harry Mudd though I doubt it. I mean he is already established as a loving husband.:)

Only 2 that makes sense to me is Lorca and TIlly. Lorca if they want to show her go to the dark side but I think Lorca and Cylon security woman might be a couple so that sounds to soap opera. Tilly also would be a dark side moment in that she is taken advantage of someone who looks up to her more as a mentor though it could also be a wake up moment were she realizes that she has gone to far and wants to change.

The other option and maybe my favorite is that she simply has casual sexual encounters. It's already been done with Kirk and RIker and early Bashir so it's basically a Trek tradition at this point. The difference is with those mentioned 3 the sex and romance I think was treated more like a fun hobby. Burnham being raised on Vulcan I don't think would consider sex or romance like that so instead it could be a byproduct of her ongoing depression from the events of the pilot.

I was thinking, "Probably a romance with an episodic character of the week."

I'm of the mind the Tucker and T'Pol romance was the worst part of Star Trek. Not Enterprise, Star Trek.

And I include Threshold.

I kind of like it even though I never thought much about TPol as a character. She never felt like a Vulcan and she was clearly their to be just a copy of Seven of NIne. Still I think Trek did have good onging romance with Sisko and Cassidy and O'Brien and Keiko and Paris and Torres. Riker and Troi didn't have a romance but clearly had those feelings towards each other and I thought that was done well.

In what way exactly? I mean besides them both being played by women who were judged way more on their appearance than their acting ability?

To me it was the catsuit, boobs that are Hollywood big and reserved emotions and that she was created by Brannon Braga. Ony difference is I don't think the actress was as talented as Jeri Ryan so the Seven of Nine traits tend to define her more than even Seven of Nine.

Ash Tyler. Before he ends up being revealed as a Klingon sleeper agent.
Yeah! I think Shazad said there was going to be some chemistry between them...If he ever turns up! I too think he could end up being a Klingon 'sleeper' or some sort of Section 31 infiltrator!

I’m guessing he is either Voq (since there seems to be a little controversy about who is playing him) OR he really is a POW who ends up being brainwashed by the Klingons.

I imagine she'll seduce Landry to get information she wants about what is going on.

I think she will either die heroically or be trapped in some alternative dimension at the end of the series, so probably no.

I’d like to see her paired with a Vulcan, though I doubt they would do so. It would be interesting if Sarek, as a foster father raising this human girl as a Vulcan, had decided to arrange a childhood betrothal with a like minded Vulcan family and the fiancé made an appearance. It would be a way to explore Vulcan culture.

This is how I equate the events on TOS with that of DSC.
Spock was bonded to T'Pring and Michael was bonded to Stonn. T'Pring was secretly in love with Spock but participated in the childhood bullying of him because she wanted to be one of the "cool" girls. But secretly Spock was in love with Michael and Michael was in love with Spock but neither would do anything about it because they were bonded to other people, T'Pring starts an affair with Stonn to get Spock's attention. But it backfires on her and Spock tells her she's welcome to Stonn and he would like to break the bond so he could go off with Michael. Enraged, T'Pring tell Sarek about Spock and Sarek confronts Spock and Michael. They admit it is true and in a panic about this semi-incestuous relationship Sarek sends Michael off to hated Starfleet to get her out of the picture. Spock says to Michael he will follow after he breaks the bond with T'Pring. T'Pring refuses to break the bond and tells Michael that Spock has betrayed her and it is he who wants to keep the bond. Blah blah blah a misunderstanding ensues and Michael refuses Spock's calls and writes him a dear john letter and Spock is of course devastated and never mentions her again in all of TOS and the TOS movies and in his conversations with Sybok.
Now that I've stolen 2 minutes of your life that you can never get back after reading this,
SERIOUSLY:

Does Burnham need a romance? Does she need a guy/girl to make her a happy/legitimate character?

I think she needs a friend first. What I liked about Janeway's existing relationship was that it was barely mentioned and didn't define her.

Maybe later after we get to know her.

personally I hope not. If there's one thing Star Trek has NEVER done well (writing wise) on - it's interpersonal romantic relationships.

And the track record has been even worse for interpersonal romantic relationships for female characters. I can think of a precious few "romance of the week" episodes which worked for male characters, but every time they came up with a love interest for a Trek woman he's been either a creep or insufferably boring.

I wonder if it validates a character to be shown in a relationship? This is the second thread I've read wondering if one of the characters should be seen to have a relationship. It's what we do, I guess.

Tilly is a drip, Burnham could do way better. Lorca on the other hand seems to have the upper hand with Michael, so I would avoid that complication.

Even if we all think Trek has had a bad history when writing romance why do we think this show would be the same? Different writers and actors and different setting. What has and hasn't worked in the past won't have a impact on what is done on this show.

Most are saying Tilly or Landry so we just assuming now this is a ship full of homosexuals?

Didn’t they say something about her exploring a romance with the male officer who has PTSD? I don’t think he’s been on the show yet.

I don’t have any real problem with any romantic partnership if it’s semi well written. I liked Trip and T’Pol, though I like them even better in the novel tie ins that continued and fixed the mess that was the Enterprise finale. I also liked the O’Briens on Star Trek: The Next Generation. I like the idea of an established relationship between Stamets and his husband, the doctor.
