Do you think Lorca is a "good guy" or "bad guy"?

very hard to say at the moment. He's a very ambigious character at the moment but i couldn't help feeling at the end of episode 3 that he was or appeared to be hiding something. I suppose all will eventually be revealed.

That would be amazing if Lorca acted like Vic Mackey. Someone needs to do a fan edit of the Discovery credits with The Shield's theme.

I'm leaning toward good guy with a God complex ("Context is for Kings," indeed). Either way, I hope he isn't Section 31. Those black insignia have me worried.

It's very plausible that we're retreading the bad/insane captain/admiral story we've seen so often before. And that could be fun, but I don't think it's the best way to go here.

I'm hoping that they'll do something different - that he'll be a good (if somewhat shady) person and captain, and that Michael will have to learn to trust her superiors, not that she needs to mutiny repeatedly until she finds the right person to mutiny against.

That's the thing about mutiny. The first time never goes well. You need to mutiny a few times before you get the hang of it.

A despised mutineer leading her detractors in a mutiny of their own... I like it.

I think he is Admiral material. Can I just put it that way? ;)

With the focus on the first officer, all other characters are disposable - Game of Thrones style.

It's possible, and DeForest Kelley had been a bad guy often enough before he got the role of Dr McCoy...

Fuck, if this show had a Tyrion I'd be all in.

I agree. He's also said that he only likes to play nuanced character, that from a purely vain point of view it makes him look good. Which is quite frankly the most clever use a humble brag I have ever heard in my life. He's saying he only looks good because he only played nuanced characters....but if you don't have the talent to play a nuanced character it really makes you fall flat on your face.

On the other hand, she might be the Deanerys
Michael Burnham of Starship Discovery. Once First Officer, the Mutineer, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Breaker of Chains, and Mother of Dragons
    And Englishmen?

The thing I find interesting is he is obviously a soldier Captain who has been put in charge of a science vessel with the goal of using its discoveries for the war effort, however the producers have said the war would only last Season 1. Assuming he survives into season 2, what does Captain Lorca look like as Captain of a science vessel, that is now just a science vessel? How stir crazy would he become?

I wonder if they'll try and redeem him? Probably not, but I suspect the actor is the biggest draw. He has a certain magnetism. Actually not a bad topical example of how a leader can establish themselves when their mental and emotional state is questionable.
