Don't forget Jonathan Lane's blog today, "Is CARLOS PEDRAZA a liar or just a lousy journalist? (editorial)," in which he says I keep changing the amount of money Axanar raised (citing various AxaMonitor articles that cite figures ranging from $1.1 million to "nearly $2 million," and that I lied about being employed by The Associated Press. Naturally, he gets that all wrong. Here's my reply:

« Jonathan, I'm the first to admit the differing numbers are confusing but none is inaccurate given the different revenue streams Axanar had, some of which have never been documented by Alec Peters.

« The $1.4 million you describe, which comes from the financial expert hired by Axanar to testify in the copyright infringement case, describes the total donations as coming from crowdfunding and donor store sales.

« In some articles I use the figure directly attributable to crowdfunding. In others I have used the Tregillis figure; both are correct as far as they go.

« As for the $1.7 million, I didn't make that up. It's what Axanar's total paid expenses came to, and it comes directly from Alec Peters himself in the Donor Memo [see image below] he released earlier this year. He himself states the $300,000 difference came from additional donations (including his own undocumented contribution) NOT included in the $1.4m figure.

« As for my employment with The Associated Press, your scurrilous accusation that I've lied to employers for three decades about working there, and that I only ever wrote one article and it was as a freelance writer is patently false. You base this allegation on a Google search that turned up only one article? You realize, don't you, that in the years I spent working at the AP there was no public internet. The AP itself offers no public archive of news stories from that era.

« If you want to spend the money, trying using the Lexis-Nexis database and you'll find lots more to demonstrate that you're the one perpetrating falsehoods. »

Funny how the attacks on you are vague accusations of being a "hater" and being inaccurate, but there are no specific instances where they say you lied or were wrong. The differing money amounts are the differing amounts they have specifically offered at various times. I posted on the Axanar website asking if anyone had any specific examples of lies/inaccuracies and so far....*crickets*

OK, I get the bit of how cryptomining uses other peoples computers to mine Bitcoins and the like. But does that mean that someone is stealing Bitcoins from the digital ether? My head hurts!

Well, an Axanar Fan Club (FB) replied that "everything" in Carlos' blog is inaccurate or wrong. I replied that I guess that settled that...after which someone said it was like "fake news". I didn't bother...

It means they are stealing from your electric bill. Running the miner sw on your computer raises your power consumption by driving your cpu to its max, and possibly your graphics hardware, in the background.

So has anything more been said about the whole thing with a picture of Carlos on a shooting target? Has anyone confronted Alec about it or has he apologized or anything?
Wow, they actually went there. Just when I think I can't respect them any less. This whole situation has really made me reevaluate just how low of an opinion I can have of people.

Oh, I get that bit, so that costs me. But what does whoever is doing that gain, other than free computing time for them?

Ever since January, I detest the use of that phrase! Everywhere, it just seems to be the goto phrase.

I remember when this used to be fun.

    IT's just miserable now.

Good god, is this thread still a thing? I've been months away and thought I'd take a peek to see if it was safe. Nope. Is it really a good idea to spend so much of your lives - some far more than others in an obsessive sort of way - still following what is already a consensus about a community pariah? Is this worth spending some portion of a finite number of heartbeats in your life on one person you don't even like? Surely there are better and healthier things to obsess over. A good test might be, "Does this story affect or have any meaning to my life? If I stop, will my life be better or worse off?"

Nobody is obsessing over it. If Mr. Peters would stop finding new and creative ways to continue being a *BLEEEEP*, I'm pretty sure this thread would run its course and fade away.

Besides, it hasn't yet 1701 pages yet.

The philly cheesesteak I had for lunch did more to damage the total of heartbeats I have left in my life than this thread ever could.

You make it sound like gossiping on the internets is some herculean effort. Do you post via telegram or something?

jespah? Is this you? :) When did 'moderator' happen? Was listening to #11 today ('We are Eleven', Sem. Shenanigans :techman:. Really liked, and liked reading between the lines, 'Caveat Donor') Seriously, woman, do you ever sleep? My gawds, you're like the Energizer Bunny.

So, to catch myself up in The Thread... some are still adamantly sheep, leopard spots absolutely do not change, shenanigans continue, watchers are still on-deck with spot lights, and carlosp is still a bur under the saddle to our Jonathan.

    Got it.

    .... and you're a moderator!

Shout outs to The Thread and all of you I watched with and conversed with and speculated with and learned from & with (and periodically cried in front of when frustration got the better of me ) from Jan 2016 to July 2017.

Potempkin, Semantic Shenanigans, and all you other producers of fan films and fan audio productions I watch and listen to.....I'm still watching and listening!! Thanks ever so much for the enjoyment you give me ... and gratitude to you all for putting in the work making this stuff for my viewing and listening pleasure.

    Laters, lads & ladies,

I don't think the word "rest" is in Randy's vocabulary, He's still up working hard creating content for everyone to enjoy.

I got the mod thingie this morning, actually. Thanks! I am trying not to accidentally create a rift in the time-space continuum.

    So far, so good.
