Do you think Lorca is a "good guy" or "bad guy"?

He won't end up being a "villain", if that's the question.

He may have generally honorable intentions, while his actions, modus operandi, and personality may belie those intentions. But I don't think he will be villainous. From what we've seen of him so far, that would be trite.

He's the classic rogue captain, there's been a few of those scattered around the series. Why they'd pick such a type for a captain we'll be watching for years to come is another question...
Show might be around........Lorca, perhaps not.

He will think of himself as a good guy, will be a bad guy by the standards of "Roddenberry's Vision".

All I care about is if he's interesting or not. There's a dearth of interesting people on Discovery.

I find it full of interesting people, you just don't like it. I feel the same about the cookie cutter crew of Orville.

Okay? Am I supposed to lie about what I think to make other people feel better about liking it?
Nope, but I haven't posted in The Orville thread since week 2. If I don't like something I find no joy in discussing it. Obviously that's JUST me.

Star Trek is different, and I think we both know that. Most of us have been following the franchise for the vast majority of our lives, through good and ill. To expect fans of the franchise to quit commenting on it is silly.

He'll do bad things for a good reason. My favorite type of character in fiction. In The Pale Moonlight and Damage are probably my two favorite episodes in all of Trek.

I think it's just that there is a certain relentlessness to your comments.

I think Lorca will be none of the above. I truly believe he won't be a villain or a Ron Tracy / Capt Ransom. Maybe more of a Ben Maxwell.

Does it have to be a competition, though?

I don't see it as a competition. I'm sorry that you do. Do you criticize people for being "relentlessly" positive in their comments on the show? Would this even be an issue if my comments were "relentlessly" positive?

That is my favourite type of villain, but not my favourite type of a hero. And I hope Discovery doesn't have villainous main characters.

Furthermore, I think it will be boring strytelling if he is the villain, most people are already expecting that.

There's an episode of DS9 that is currently informing my view on Lorca, 'In The Pale Moonlight'. The big difference being Lorca does NOT seem to have the morality or ethics of Ben Sisko. So I'd say he's leaning in the "bad" direction. I just have no baseline for what this guy's ethics are, if he even has any besides "save the Federation above all else".

He's a bad guy that thinks he's the good guy. And it's looking like a major plot point to be resolved this season or the next. If the war ends in season 1, he might not accept that and become and issue for season 2.
