Hopefully this will not stray too far off this forum's mission statement, but spending a lot of time around here lately I wonder where people on either side of the spectrum – those who like the show so far and those who wished for something different – are coming from. When someone loves/despises a Discovery character I immediately wonder what their favorite character from the earlier Star Trek shows is. Someone critiques the way the Discovery writers approach the story arc, so I'm going to be curious what your favorite shows are. I'm just trying to get a perspective on who you are as a Star Trek fan. So, if you'll please indulge me, here are just a couple of quick questions: Are you liking Discovery thus far? Are you liking Discovery thus far? Yes, I like it so much. What's your favorite Star Trek show? I like them all except TOS. It's not the concept, but maybe because it's already old. Too old to my taste. It is similar to Star Trek TNG the first season. It's ugly, because it's already too old to my taste. Who's your favorite Star Trek character? Jeanluc Picard. What are your Top Five shows of all time You mean western TV show? Star Trek TNG, The Expanse, Game of Throne, The Last Kingdom, and MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson version). I have another TV Show (non western) that I like. But I think that it's irrelevant here.

1. Are you liking Discovery thus far? I'm not a fan of Michael Burnham (not yet at least), and I could seriously have done without the gore that was in the third episode. Are you liking Discovery thus far? Loving it. They've made a few artistic choices I disagree with, but I can find fault with every Trek series to date; I simply chose not to. What's your favorite Star Trek show? This might actually become it. But Star Trek: Deep Space Nine currently holds that rank. Parts of Star Trek Enterprise were amazing, too. Who's your favorite Star Trek character? Spock. Or is it Gul Dukat? No, no, it's Elim Garak. No, wait a minute ... Lieutenant Arex! No, no! Trip Tucker! Yep. Definitely Spock. What are your Top Five shows of all time? Tough one. Firefly is probably in there. Then there's PBS' Nova. Star Trek TOS, and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine deserve mention. Doctor Who!

Star Trek (The Original 1966-1969) followed by Enterprise and Deep Space Nine Who's your favorite Star Trek character? James T. Kirk What are your Top Five shows of all time? 1 - Star Trek (The Original 1966-1969) 2 - Space Battleship Yamato: 2199 (2012 - 2013) [Japanese Anime] (I would have still said the original 1973 version of SBY here but this is an amazing and well done updated telling of the story that's very good.) 3 - The Prisoner (1967) [with Patrick McGowan] 4 - The Outer Limits (1963 - 1965) 5 - The Twilight Zone (1959-1964) Edited to add: You know if you assume everyone here would mention a Star Trek series as one of their 'Top 5' (and take that as a given) then I'm missing a '5th' - so to round it out I was have to say for my 5th (Non-Trek* )'Top 5' show: 5* - The Adventures of Rick and Morty (And yeah, I just got into it recently, but it's IMO got great humor - and is a real 'guilty pleasure of mine. Looking forward to its Season 4 that hopefully won't be 2 years to complete and show. )
